Poverty can be divided into two types, namely material poverty and spiritual poverty. The two also have distinct and easily recognizable characteristics. It was conveyed by the Chairman of the Daily Board of Trustees (BPH) of the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) as well as the coordinating minister for Human Development and Culture, Prof. Dr. Muhadjir Effendy, M.A.P. in Tadarus Ramadhan White Campus, last Saturday (9/4).

According to Muhadjir, as he is affectionately known, he considers that in addition to some people struggling with material poverty, many wealthy people are now experiencing spiritual poverty. It can be seen and affects the behavior that is shown every day. It is not only seen in private officials but also occurs in the community.

According to him, property poverty is difficult to overcome. However, tackling spiritual poverty is even more complicated. Many people quickly realize and admit that they are materially poor. Many even claimed to be lacking when social assistance (grant) (bansos) was presented in contrast to the awareness of spiritual poverty that is difficult to appear in the human mind.

"They feel fine, even though other people see themselves as unnatural and over the line. Arrogant, miserly, greedy, immoral behavior is often shown. They are already aware but are even proud of their bad attitude," he added.

Thus, Muhadjir encouraged Muhammadiyah, especially UMM, to overcome and reach both spiritual and material poverty. For example, friends from the Faculty of Islamic Religion, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, and others can slowly eradicate spiritual poverty. Meanwhile, the Faculty of Economics and Business, the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, and other parties can provide solutions to the problem of property poverty.

He also considered that Muhammadiyah had long struggled to eradicate poverty. Both through empowerment and awareness of spirituality. Partisanship toward the poor, orphans, and the marginalized is also considered following Al-Maun Muhammadiyah's theology. "Hopefully, in this Ramadan, we can be kept away from the traits of envy, jealousy, deceit, and other bad behavior. This holy month can also be used as a moment of correction to improve ourselves in the future," he concluded.

Meanwhile, the Secretary of the White Campus BPH Drs. Wakidi said that the series of Syiar Ramadhan is one of the joint efforts to get closer to the Creator. It is the right moment to soften your heart and sharpen your mind.

Wakidi also wants this year's Ramadan to improve UMM academics' work ethic and duties in serving the community well. One of them is through lectures and spiritual lectures delivered by the coordinating minister for Human Development and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia. "At the same time, as a way to add insight into the actual issues. Increase awareness and love for the country of Indonesia," he said.

On the other hand, the Chancellor of UMM, Dr. Fauzan, M.Pd., said that the set of agendas was prepared solely to raise awareness. Especially the attention that academicians are creatures of Allah SWT. Even with substantial efforts to make jihad in education through UMM.

"I am sure that the lecturers and employees of the White Campus always have the intention to be good people. So, I think Ramadan is the right moment and opportunity to add to the good done and change the things that are not good," he concluded. (cdr/wil)
