Jiro Tominaga, Director of ADB Indonesia Encourages UMM Graduates to Become Excellent Human

The UMM Young Generation must be able to collaborate, be innovative, and think openly in facing the digital era. This was conveyed by the Country Director of the Asian Development Bank-Indonesia Jiro Tominaga when addressing the graduates of the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM). He was present and became a speaker at the 105th Graduation event period III which was held on last Tuesday (20/09), located at UMM Dome.

Jiro saying that students must become superior human beings and have achievements. One of the achievements that have been achieved by UMM students is choosing a white campus. This is because UMM is one of the leading campuses in Indonesia. Many achievements have been proven by UMM to Indonesia and the world.

“UMM is ranked as the sixth best private university in the Asean region. This campus is also ranked first as the best Islamic campus in the world according to UniRank's version in 2021. What is even more impressive is that of the 40,000 students at UMM, 10% are from abroad such as Australia, Singapore, Malaysia and Timor Leste, "said the alumnus of Keio the University.

This man from Japan was also impressed with the tolerance at UMM. Even though it is dubbed the best Islamic campus in the world, UMM is not only inhabited by various Islamic students. There are also Christian, Hindu and Catholic students studying here. In addition, Jiro greatly appreciated the steps taken by UMM in developing a digital education center in collaboration with the economy.

“The Center of Excellence (CoE) that is being managed is a proof that UMM is passionate about continuing to innovate. I think this program will bring students to become human beings who are able to contribute to making the world a better place,” said Jiro.

Furthermore, Jiro reminded the graduates that the world today has very high expectations for the younger generation. Mainly solving various problems in the digital era. In dealing with it, they must collaborate, work together, think openly, and innovate.

Interestingly, Jiro also briefly mentioned the issue of climate change. He said that young people in Asia and the Pacific are at the forefront of the campaign against climate change. One article explains that the impact of the climate crisis is worse than a pandemic. Climate change can also harm Indonesia by up to 4% by 2030.

"One of the formulas to fight climate change is collaboration between government institutions and educational institutions. I see UMM as an educational and research institution that has implemented this collaboration effectively," he said.

On the other hand, UMM Chancellor Dr. Fauzan, M.Pd advised UMM graduates to be present as problem solvers in the community and not to become people who are actually involved in problems. He emphasized them to remain positive, aggressive, and progressive thinking people. "Never think pessimistically or think backwards. The world needs people with strong self-confidence and great determination,” said the Chancellor from Kediri.

On the same occasion, Drs. Wakidi as the Daily Management Board (BPH) of UMM advised UMM graduates to never give up in the face of all obstacles. In addition, never stop improving yourself to be better and always put your trust in Allah SWT. “Confidence is the main asset. Then followed by morality and the most important thing is honesty.
