Efforts do not betray the results. The proverb seems to fit the three University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) students who successfully won the championship. They won second place in the National Debate Competition entitled Harmoni Cinta Guru Online Party Jakarta State University (UNJ) early last September. More than 20 teams from various universities throughout Indonesia competed with each other in the competition.

Ferdy Aprizal and Mohammad Rakan Putra Zazli Agus from the Faculty of Psychology and Hamim Faqih from International Relations made the campus proud. Ferdi, his nickname, said that his team only made preparations for one week before the competition. In addition to mental, presentation rhetoric and material mastery are also important. They always practice discussions and also watch debate videos on social media.

"Our preparation for the competition this time strengthens the rhetoric so that it runs smoothly when presenting arguments in the competition," he said.

He was grateful that UMM always provided motivation and an organization that encouraged their debating skills. There are LSOs at the faculty level. There are also various SMEs at the university level. So, all students can participate according to their interests and passions. Even able to lead to the peak of achievement in various competitions.

The student from Tarakan continued that his team was in the final position in the preliminary round. Not just once, but during the quarter-finals, they also sat in last place. But thanks to the mental steel, they continued to rise and offer the best. Until I finally entered the finals.

Interestingly, last July, he and his team recently won second place in the national debate competition at the State University of Malang (UM) Rhetoric Festival. According to Ferdi, the key is not to underestimate the opponent so they can display a slick effort and produce good results.

"We don't want to be the only ones passionate about achieving achievements. Sasya invites other students to discover their talents, potential, and interests. Then it is honed and developed so that it gives advantages to yourself. Even with the effort to make the name of the UMM White Campus proud in various arenas. Both local, national and international," he hoped. (apg/haq/wil)
