In facing the world of work, students must develop three characters within themselves. These characteristics include integrity, striving for excellence, and humility. This was conveyed by the Main Director of PT Aneka Tambang Tbk (Antam) Jakarta and Nicolas D. Kanter at the 106th University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) graduation ceremony. Apart from attending the graduation on November 15, 2022, he also discussed collaboration that could be carried out between UMM and PT Antam.

Furthermore, Nico explained that during his 39 years of career in multinational companies and State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN), there were three characteristics that he always adhered to. The first trait is integrity which is a combination of honesty, morality, and morality. By embracing this trait, the graduates will know where to stand.

“My father once advised us never to let fear stop us from doing the right thing. However, the delivery must be done sincerely, sincerely full of courtesy and respect. This character has given me much trust for the past 39 years,” said the former President Director of PT Vale Indonesia Tbk (INCO).

Nico again described other characteristics that graduates must have. The second characteristic is striving for excellence or giving the best in a job. In doing a task should not be done in halves. Doing your best doesn't mean being the best among colleagues, but being the best version of yourself.

"Lastly is humility or humility. Sometimes some people misunderstand that being humble means putting yourself down, even though that's not what it means. If we admit mistakes and are humble, we open ourselves up to someone to give feedback and input so that we can become better people. This allows us to collaborate better in the future," said Nico.

Nico also said that UMM had provided special provisions. Moreover, this campus is a respected university. On the other hand, this is also a challenge for graduates to prove themselves that UMM is indeed qualified.

“This graduation is the first part of the student’s journey to the real world. Don't be afraid of a problem because life is a struggle. You have to turn a problem into a challenge. In my opinion, success is delayed success,” said the University of Southern California graduate.

He explained that there was much potential for collaboration with UMM. Moreover, seeing the White Campus, which has a Center of Excellence (CoE) program. According to him, universities and even industry need to own innovation like this.

In line with Nico, UMM Chancellor Dr. Fauzan, M.Pd. said that the learning process is part of the struggle where falling, rising, ups, and downs always accompany. But that's all a way to form a strong personality and think to solve problems.

“You must have an idea for the next thirteen years about what role you want to take in society. What you gave and obtained on the UMM campus should not be wasted. Make it a shield to overcome difficulties and achieve success in the future," he concluded. (cdr/syi/wil)
