The team from the Department of Informatics Engineering at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) with the Indonesian Healthy Wildlife company, has initiated metaverse technology in the world of animals. This activity has been ongoing since August 2023. Interestingly, the idea emerged during casual conversations between the informatics program team and the company.

Didih Rizki Chandranegara, S.Kom., M.Kom., as a lecturer involved in this project, stated that the involvement of the Informatics program aims to utilize metaverse technology, which has penetrated various sectors. However, in the field of animal health, metaverse applications have not been developed before.

Furthermore, Didih revealed that the decision to propose this activity as part of a Center of Excellence (CoE) based dedication marks their commitment to providing sustainable contributions to the development of applied technology. The platform allows virtual simulation of animal operations. Prospective veterinarians can gain practical experience close to real situations without sacrificing real animals. Moreover, this application is expected to be a comprehensive source of information on animal anatomy structures for various groups, not only for animal health professionals.

"So, prospective doctors and healthcare personnel in the veterinary sector can gain good and interesting experiences," he explained.

This dedication also involves a metaverse team consisting of program leaders, several lecturers, final-year students, and alumni from the UMM informatics program. The involvement of the metaverse team from the Informatics program is not only to introduce the latest technology but also as a tangible manifestation of interdisciplinary collaboration. Stakeholders, both from academia and practitioners in the animal health industry, actively participate in every stage of the application development.

Implementation steps include a series of meetings to develop collaboration strategies with animal clinics, mapping data, designing applications considering existing needs and limitations, to testing and official application launches. This process involves in-depth discussions between developers and potential users to ensure that the resulting metaverse application can provide significant added value.

"The metaverse in the field of veterinary medicine is still being developed to reach its full potential. This effort is not just a technological project. However, it can be a progressive step in utilizing innovation to improve the quality of services and education in the field of animal health," he concluded.(Rev/Wil/Fajr)
