Limitations are not an obstacle to keep achieving, so the right metaphor is given to Muhammad Syahrullah SR, a student who received the “Kartu Indonesia Pintar” at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM). He managed to achieve two silver medals in the 2022 National Student Olympiad (OSN) held by the Indonesian Achievement Institute Gemilang (Prestige) at the end of last August. In total, there were thousands of students who competed and took part in the competition.

Uniquely, the young man who is often called Syahrul is a new student from the class of 2022 from the UMM Sharia Economics Study Program. He said that the beginning came from his anxiety during school that he could not take part in the Olympics. This is because he is a SMK student, while OSN in his area is more often reserved for high school students.

"Finally, when I was a student at UMM, I wanted to be more active in participating in competitions and finally being able to take part in the national level Olympics held by the Prestige Institute," said the Makassar-born student.

He won two silver medals in the mathematics and economics competitions. In total there were more than 1000 students who took part in the mathematics competition and more than 1,300 students who took part in the economics competition. Before the competition, long ago he had studied hard by maximizing the books he read and armed with a simple device that he had. In addition, he realized that mentality is an important aspect in order to be able to compete with students throughout Indonesia.

“It is a very valuable experience to be able to take part in this competition, even more so competing against thousands of students from various leading universities in Indonesia. The problem I face may be in terms of the cell phone which is quite old, so it lags a few times,” he said.

Even so, he was grateful to be able to study at UMM. Especially with the many places to increase the potential of each student. He was determined to hone his knowledge in the Student Activity Unit (UKM) ONMIPA which was already available on the UMM White Campus. Sharing and learning with other students and making achievements.

Syahrul was sure, starting from the achievements he had just achieved, he was able to achieve higher achievements while at UMM. Because for him, UMM has a very diverse Student Activity Unit (UKM) at the university level and all information related to the competition is also very complete. Moreover, he has targeted UKM which will be stepped on to achieve more and make UMM proud.

"I hope that this can be a stepping stone to make UMM proud and since I got a scholarship here, it is appropriate that I can contribute to UMM White Campus," he said.

Finally, he advised young people not to get tired of fighting to achieve the goals that have been set. For him, youth should be put to good use. "Take advantage of the potential that God has given us because it is a form of gratitude that will lead us to success," he concluded. (cdr/ros/wil)
