PPG UMM Inaugurates 2,050 Teachers with 21st Century Skills

A total of 2,050 Teacher Professional Education (TPE) graduates in Deployment, and 688 graduates of Pre-Deployment TPE at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) were successfully inaugurated on January 23rd. They come from 27 provinces in Indonesia and have diverse cultural and religious backgrounds. Ferry Maulana Putra, S.Pd, M.Pd as the TPE Pre-Position Working Group Coordinator of the Directorate of Teacher Professional Education, Directorate General of Teachers and Education Personnel, Ministry of Education and Research.

During his speech, Ferry emphasized that Indonesia needs teachers with reasonable competence to realize the golden Indonesia 2045. One is fulfilling academic qualifications: a teacher who graduated from S1 or D4 from education and non-education. Furthermore, they also have educator certification to be officially recorded in government data. "I believe that the graduates in front of me have fulfilled all the requirements as professional teachers. Especially because they have already received learning in class and campus programs," he said.

Currently, the government is attempting to provide certification for in-service TPE graduates to fulfil teachers' needs, especially for those about to retire. In addition, Kemdikbud also has a critical strategy that can be applied to develop various schools. This program is called Sekolah Penggerak Profil Pelajar Pancasila. 

"It is perfectly by the vision of education in Indonesia, namely realizing an advanced Indonesia that is independent, sovereign and has a personality through the creation of faithful Pancasila students. This program has passed the assessment results and will be in direct contact with technology as a step to improve global diversity insights," he said.

Ferry also conveyed that reflective learning is the spirit of the implementation of pre-service TPE. This includes mastering teacher competencies primarily oriented towards individuals and learning students who practice the values of Pancasila. He also said that a teacher's commitment is needed to create lifelong learning and have the basics of leadership.

Meanwhile, the Dean of FTTE UMM, Dr. Trisakti Handayani, MM, said that the inaugurated graduates have transformed into professional teachers with many educational science competencies following the times. "With the graduates' provisions, it is certain that they will be able to integrate 21st-century learning. This education includes critical thinking, creative thinking, collaboration, and communication," she added. 

According to her, every TPE UMM alumni has been prepared to become a teacher with a professional spirit, enthusiasm, and high commitment. Likewise, with a high work ethic and integrity in realizing quality education to welcome golden Indonesia. (ri/wil/put)
