University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) students again scored achievements in sports. This time it came from a student from the Pharmacy Department, Ahmad Wibisana Dharmawan. He won 2nd place in individual and 3rd place in men's team in beach volleyball in the East Java Provincial Sports Week (Porprov) championship. The championship was held at Watersport Jasalindo Situbondo from the end of June to early July.

Wibi feels immensely proud to represent UMM and Malang in this year's Porprov championship. Moreover, this event will be the last Porprov. "So there is an age limit to participate in Porprov. Of course, I will never forget the memories of this championship. I have sacrificed many things to follow and win this championship. Whether it's time, energy, even thoughts, "said Wibi.

Wibi explained that the essential preparation before the race was to keep the body in good condition. The process of routine training that he does is approximately six months. The intensity has been getting higher in the last three months. Wibi also suffered several injuries during the training process. Moreover, he also has to divide his time between training and lectures.

"Three months before the race, I had a broken leg injury. Then a month later, I also had a dislocated right wrist ligament injury. Those two injuries were the most significant obstacle before the race. Not only have to restore physical health but also have to be able to overcome the trauma due to injury", he said.

Luckily, thanks to the full support of friends, relatives, and parents, as well as UMM, Wibi could get up well. Can even present a champion. He considered that the prayers of his parents were one of the reasons he could excel. The motivation given by his parents also made him more assertive, and he managed to get up.

Regarding the world of volleyball, he shared that he had loved volleyball since elementary school. At first, I had to because my parents asked. But over time, it became his favorite activity. Previously, Wibi also successfully won various championships. Starting from the 4th winner of the 2018 East Java Youth Province Championship to 2nd place in the same title.

Furthermore, Wibi said yesterday's competition was the competition that athletes had been waiting for because it had been a long hiatus due to the pandemic. "So I did participate in two categories, namely individual and team. Both feel different, especially in terms of atmosphere, yes. The competition is tougher for individuals because some regions are strong individually," said the student from Malang.

He advised young people always to be enthusiastic. You can stop to rest but not keep fighting. He believes that everyone has talents that can be channeled and maximized. Especially if you can use it for the good of society. (cdr/zak/wil)
