Cooperating with Asia University Taiwan, Faculty of Psychology UMM Opens Joint Degree Program

Good news came from the Faculty of Psychology (Fapsi) of the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM). Now Fapsi UMM is opening a joint degree program with Asia University Taiwan for students. This program is a manifestation of their seriousness to continue to improve the quality of international academics. This joint degree is also a follow-up program from the international class that has been going on since 2020.

The coordinator of the joint degree program, Muhammad Fath Mashuri, S.Psi., M.A said that through this program, students will get two academic degrees at once. Namely, one bachelor of psychology from UMM White Campus and a bachelor of science from Asia University. Students who take this program will attend lectures for the first two years at UMM, then the next two years will continue at the Asia University campus.

“After going through a long process, finally this activity got permission from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology (Kemendikbud-Ristek) with the number SK 0727/E. E3/OT.00.04/2022. So, this program is implemented for the class of 2022 students who have just entered college," he explained.

Fath added that there are several stages of selection that students must pass in order to take part in the joint degree. It begins with a selection of documents which contain the requirements for a TOEFL ITP certificate of more than 500 or IELTS of more than 5.5. Followed by the selection of substances in the form of continued with the selection of substances in the form of academic potential tests to interview tests.

“There are many benefits that students will get in a joint degree. Not only do they get degrees from two different universities, they also get international exposure. Especially considering that studying abroad is not an easy matter, especially with different languages ​​and cultures. In the future, I believe that students will gain a lot of experience and increase their skills. Both in terms of English language skills, literacy skills, understanding the wider world, and a more complex perspective globally,” said the Psychology lecturer.

Fapsi UMM targets 20 students to join this joint degree. Maybe even more because of the high enthusiasm of the new students. Fath emphasized that Fapsi UMM not only opened a joint degree program with Asia University, but his party had explored cooperation with other overseas campuses, both in Asia, America, and Europe. "So, students can freely choose the campus to undergo a joint degree while studying at UMM," he concluded. (cdr/zak/wil)
