Supported by the Governor of East Java, UMM Holds Mass Vaccination soon

The government continues to carry out accelerated vaccination programs, starting at the central and regional levels. The University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) will soon do the same thing. Supported by the Provincial Government of East Java (Jatim), the White Campus will carry out a mass vaccination of large families in the next few days. The coordination, which was carried out on Tuesday (28/7), was attended by the Governor of East Java, Khofifah Indar Parawansa, and the Chancellor and Vice-Chancellor of UMM.

Khofifah, the nickname of the Governor of East Java, advised UMM to prepare a technical team to implement this vaccination immediately. That way, who can immediately implement the plan in the next few days. The provincial government will also assist in the distribution and various other needs. "Later, who will distribute the vaccine through the city and local government. But there is still a designation label for UMM. If possible, this vaccination can be immediately held in the next few days, “said Khofifah.

The administration of vaccines is prioritized on the White Campus academic community first, and then it will target families and then alumni. Dr. Ir delivered it. Wahid Wahyudi, MT., hopes that this event will provide around 2500-3000 vaccines in one day. "If you look at the previous vaccinations, it is possible that the amount given can reach 3000 vaccines a day," hoped the Head of the East Java Education Office.

Responding to this, Dr. Fauzan, M.Pd. as the Chancellor of UMM, admitted that he was ready and would immediately coordinate with the parties concerned. He revealed that UMM already had a special team for Covid-19 to make it more accessible to determine the target point. "Later, this team will choose strategic target points so that the acceleration of vaccination can run smoothly. Especially with the support of facilities available at UMM," said Fauzan.

He also said that there was no other choice but to help the government accelerate so that it could create herd immunity as expected. Fauzan assess that this effort is expected to be a field of reward and worship for all those who work on it. "We are ready and will immediately coordinate so that who can carry out this event in just the next few days," he said.

On the same occasion, the Head of the UMM Covid-19 Task Force, dr. Thontowi Djauhari, M.Kes also had the opportunity to report on the development of facilities and patients at the UMM Covid Hospital. He said that currently, 72 patients are being treated with six isolation rooms and one operating room for pregnant women who have contracted Covid-19. "Previously, this room was the ICU, but we deliberately changed it for birth operations for pregnant women," he explained.

Tomy, his nickname, also reported that there had been 1787 patients being treated at UMM Hospital since the pandemic struck. As for July this year, around 190 patients were being treated. Even though the transmission rate is now decreasing and stable, Tomy is still worried about the supply of oxygen which is currently quite challenging to obtain. "Hopefully, this vaccination event will be able to reduce the number of Covid-19 transmission in the community significantly," concluded Tomy at the end of his report. (wil)
