Rice is a staple food for Indonesian people. Although rice is desperately needed, most rice farmers live far from prosperity. To solve this problem, Ulfah Nur Oktaviana, S.Kom, the best graduate of the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM), has created an E-Rice Detector application. This Engineering Faculty-student was inaugurated Thursday (22/09) at the UMM Dome.

Ulfah, as she is known, explains that many problems cause farmers in Indonesia to be far from prosperous. The first is the price game played by middlemen, who buy rice at meager prices from farmers. Then sell it expensively to the public. The second problem is the lack of availability of fertilizers and their prices in the market. The last problem is the farmers who do not know the disease in rice, which can cause crop failure.

"From the various existing problems, our team finally made an application that can help farmers. There are several features contained in this application. First, there is a list of rice prices throughout Indonesia. Then the second feature is information on the availability of fertilizers and their prices in the user's environment. Finally, there is a scan feature to find out various diseases in rice plants and how to handle them, "explained the eldest of two siblings.

Furthermore, Ulfah explained that with this application, she and her team wanted to prosper the lives of Indonesian farmers. In addition, this application is also helpful as a transfer of knowledge between student teams and farmers, especially in handling rice diseases. The E-Rice Detector application has been downloaded hundreds of times on the Playstore.

In addition to being active in making applications while studying, Ulfah also participated in independent campus activities. She is active in two different programs, Bangkit and Generasi Gigih. This student, born in 1999, also won the Top 3 IEEE Innovation Nation.

"I try to take advantage of my lectures to develop skills and explore various fields, both academic and non-academic. This will also forge me to improve problem-solving skills and work as a team," she said.

In his lecture, Ulfah said that UMM's contribution was very large. The white campus became a place of learning, both in terms of academic and non-academic, for him. Especially the UMM PASTI program, which made him graduate on time with qualifying scores. This program also makes him more independent and able to solve problems. Finally, UMM PASTI also succeeded in getting him accepted to work as a data analyst, even before graduation.

"The next step I will take after graduating from UMM is to contribute to the development of Indonesia using the knowledge I get here. I will also increase sensitivity to find out problems in the community and solve them with technology," said Ulfah. (apg/shi/wil)
