After Making Herbal Tea and Corn Powder Drinks, UMM Team Trained Sragi Residents to Become Sociopreneurs

To support the independence of the village's leading businesses, a team of students from the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) held sociopreneur training for superior products based on corn silk. The activity was held in early September in Sragi Village, Blitar. Some products are antioxidant herbal teas and drink powder from corn silk and ginger.

This community service activity from the Student Organization Capacity Building Program (PPK Ormawa) and Food Technology Student Association (Himatekpa) invited an entrepreneur who owns UD. Mazedo Inti Jaya, Taufiq Hidayah Irianti. Taufiq explained that several characteristics distinguish sociopreneurs from entrepreneurs in general.

"The first difference is the buying and selling activities which also deal with social problems in the surrounding community. Second, it is innovative and sensitive in running its business. Third, this business has a significant impact, not only in one area but also in several other areas. Lastly is the openness to reciprocity that others provide and continue to adapt in business development, "he said.

In addition to providing material on sociopreneurs, Taufiq also explained how to market products. Several strategic steps must be taken so that marketing runs smoothly. The first is to divide the market segmentation. It is helpful to divide the community into several groups. After splitting the market segmentation, the next step is determining the target market.

"The next step is to determine the market positioning by building brand awareness. Some of these steps will be useful to get new customers and create a loyal customer group," explained Taufiq.

Furthermore, Taufiq said that there are several types of marketing. These include branding, advertising, multilevel marketing, internet, and online marketing. To run branding, the product must have a target market and a brand name to be known. This type is beneficial to make your product or service more attractive and well known. Meanwhile, advertising usually uses radio media or paid advertising.

Meanwhile, one of the participants, Gunawan, considered this helpful training. Especially to market herbal tea products and powder drinks from corn silk. After collaborating with UMM to make related products, it is time to market them correctly.

"The tips and steps given by the speaker are very appropriate. We become more aware of the strategy so that our unique and interesting products can be in demand by the wider community. One of them is through social media, which is widely used.
