To improve the quality of its academic community, the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) again dispatched its lecturers to Poland in the Erasmus Plus program. This time, Dr. Widayat, Drs. MM. as a lecturer at the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), UMM visited Wroclaw University of Science and Technology (Politechnika Worclawska) and Politechnika Warszawska, Warsaw Poland. This activity lasts for a week at the end of July.

Widayat, as he is known, said that this program was aimed at the potential cooperation in developing the UMM Internationalization Program in the future. The form of association can be in the form of teaching collaboration in the implementation of international classes, credit transfers, to double degrees. Meanwhile, there will be potential for research collaboration in terms of lecturers or employees. It is also possible to conduct joint studies on specific themes.

"It's not just a matter of cooperation, but we lecturers also learn so that the knowledge we get in Poland can be useful for the advancement of Indonesian education, especially UMM," he said.

In addition, he is more interested in the standardization of education in Poland, which is organized. This is based on management based on market mechanisms. This mechanism sees students as primary customers or investors, while parents are secondary investors.

According to him, this mechanism deserves to be adopted in Indonesia because students as investors are free to choose investments in the form of lectures. The market response to these investment instruments can take the form of course programming, selecting lecturers for certain subjects, and must be fair and open.

The team at SGH Warsaw is divided into two groups and the first is lecturers who focus on research and learning. Second is a group that focuses on "main responsibility," working as a basis to provide coaching or rewards, teaching certification, guiding thesis, or other activities. In addition, the system of learning courses there is taught by more than one lecturer, so the paradigms accepted by students vary.

"I think the system and university management, the system in Poland is worth adopting in Indonesia because students are seen as a big investment in the future," he said.

This Banyuwangi native is also amazed by the positive habits of the people in Warsaw, Poland. He sees that walking, cycling, and public transportation to the office where work is a good culture and should be imitated. In addition, the culture of resource-saving work and intentional living also inspires him.

"Quality human resources can be seen from their education. The better the education system, the better the human resources produced. I hope that Indonesian education will develop well to create a positive culture of the human resources produced," he added. (apg/haq/wil)
