In collaboration with Indozone, the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) held the Your Voice Matters (YVM) event for students last Wednesday (28/9). Presenting reliable young speakers such as Bekti Setyowibowo, Ferri Irwandi, and Firza Valaza to Arma Rohmatul Ara, YVM, motivates the younger generation to continue working. There were even three guest stars invited, Kunto Aji, Yeni Inka, and Aviwkila, to revitalize and enliven the event.

This event is also a provision for UMM new students to be more confident and have a visionary mindset. Moreover, each session discussed exciting things such as entrepreneurs, youth's role, and content creation. Even giving workshops directly through the Efyepe academy.

In one of the material sessions, communication practitioner Danis Kirana explained that Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Indonesia have the same problem. One of them is ignorance of suitable marketing methods. In addition, some of the MSME actors he has met have a defeatist mentality.

"Many MSME players give up easily at the beginning of the business. A good business mindset and strategic marketing need to be improved so MSMEs can become more optimistic. I certainly have high hopes for students so they can help promote Indonesian MSMEs," explained Danis.

In line with Danis, the Founder of Ara Scarf, Arma Rohmatul Ara, added that there are several main things in starting a business. The first is to build self-confidence, especially in running the business. The second is to increase networking and learn the business from other business actors. "The last attitude that needs to be built is to be able to accept criticism and suggestions from consumers. This will build your business for the better," said Arma.

In another session, Mike Sianipar and Nurul Hidayatul Ummah explained youth employment and Y20, a global youth working group. The Y20 was carried out last June and resulted in a series of recommendations to be submitted to the G20 later.

"Indonesia will later host the G20, in which President Jokowi will lead the discussion with other heads of state. The proposals Y20 has produced discuss youth employment, digital transformation, and diversity," they said.

Both also considered that the voices of young people greatly influence the nation's progress. In addition, they also encourage young people to prepare for a change to survive in the future.

On the other hand, UMM Chancellor Dr. Fauzan, M.Pd., appreciated the event resulting from the collaboration between Indozone and UMM White Campus. According to him, YVM is one way to encourage students to become above-average people. It is also part of a series of preparing the younger generation to become future leaders.

"Don't criticize and suudzon yourself. Don't be pessimistic. Easy to complain and blame others. You are the nation's hope who will hold the milestone of future leadership. So, always hone your leadership skills," Fauzan concluded. (apg/wil)
