Indonesia's success as the Group of Twenty (G20) host amid Russia's invasion of Ukraine should be appreciated. This has proven that as a developing country, Indonesia has power and cannot be monitored by any developed country. The Director General of Multilateral Cooperation, Tri Tharyat, SH, stated this. LL.M in the Sharing Session regarding strategic issues resulting from the G-20 presidency. The Directorate of Postgraduate Programs organized the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) event on November 29, 2022.

Furthermore, Tri explained that after receiving the G20 leadership relay from Italy, Indonesia never imagined that there would be a Russian invasion of Ukraine that would change the pattern of relations between G20 members. Because since the founding of the G20, there has been no such situation. This incident put Indonesia under much pressure from various countries such as Australia, Korea, Japan, and others.

“Many people think that the Russia-Ukraine conflict will only last a month. The invasion has been going on until now. Instead of getting better, it just got worse. In the end, the conflict did affect not only Europe but also the whole world, which disrupted economic stability. This resulted in a triple crisis in various countries, namely the financial, food and energy crises. Therefore, Indonesia is trying very hard to resolve this crisis to maintain world peace," said Tri.

The holding of G20 Summit does discuss not only economic matters but also discusses other issues, such as the impact of the pandemic. Apart from that, there are also issues of food and agriculture, health, tourism, and culture, as well as women. The initial goal of sustainable development by 2030 has been stretched due to the pandemic. So the G20 team is trying to encourage and restore the situation by attracting investment from outside to help developing countries achieve the sustainable development goals that have been proclaimed.

"One of the interesting that I appreciate about UMM is the Center of Excellence (CoE) program. I think this is a solutive innovation line with the results of the G20 in the education aspect. Especially with the cooperation built with the industry saturated with superior human resources. Hopefully,it can continue to grow and provide more comprehensive benefits, "said Tri.

Meanwhile, UMM Chancellor Dr. Fauzan M.Pd. thanked Tri for coming to the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM). Not only to discuss information about the G20 but also to invite academics to provide solutive ideas. It is felt that it can create many problem solvers who help in the community.

"Even for students who can add knowledge and inspire enthusiasm to continue to make changes. Moreover, the younger generation is the agent of change. Hopefully, this sharing session will not only be news and information sharing but will be a step for cooperation between UMM and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs," Fauzan ends. (cdr/zak/wil)
