The University of Muhammadiyah redelegated 21 intern students to Japan: 10 from the Faculty of Engineering and 11 from the Faculty of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry. They are going to depart to the land of Sakura gradually. Before their departure, the rector staff advised the students on January 12, 2023.

The Vice Dean I of the Faculty of Engineering, Zulfatman, M. Eng., Ph. D., said that half of the students were already off to Japan last November. Then, the next group would later depart in the middle of January to February.

“Each group has a different internship duration. Several have three, six to 12 months. They have  to take Japanese language training for three to four months to enable their internship activity. On the other hand, they must prepare themselves based on their preference field because it is required by the Japanese company,” said the Dean.

Zul explained further that engineering students will intern in the plastic molding industry and learn the maintenance of solar power plant construction. The intern students will be instructed to process plastic into helpful stuff in the plastic molding industry. At the same time, those allocated to the solar power plant will learn to maintain and handle the power plant damage.

Meanwhile, the Faculty of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry students will be allocated to three different farms. They are encouraged to innovate and learn new things about Japanese agricultural systems. One is using technology to enhance agricultural production. Notably, this program is the collaboration output of UMM with an overseas partnership and is part of the Independent Learning-Independent Center (Translated: MBKM). As a result, participating in this program can convert a course grade.

On the same occasion, the Rector of UMM, Dr. Fauzan, M. Pd, stated that Japan is the country with which UMM collaborates dominantly. For an internship program, many sectors can be cooperated with, such as health, civil affairs, and agriculture.

“Please utilize this chance wisely because it does not rule out the possibility that you will be needed to work there after completing your study. Always make your campus proud and impress something good in Japan,” expressed the Rector.

Meanwhile, Wirayuda Damar Wicaksono, one of the students who will depart to Japan, does not expect to be selected for this internship program, especially since its selection process is competitive. “So far, we have completed the language training program and prepared things assigned by our department. Hopefully, my friend and I will gain more skills that we can apply in the workplace in the future,” hoped Yuda. (imh/zak/wil)
