Not only providing an understanding of cognition, theater also triggers a stronger creative power. This was conveyed by Dr. Hari Sunaryo, M.Sc. as a lecturer in the Indonesian Language Education Study Program (Prodi) at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) in a theater performance event held by UMM PBI study program students in the General Administration Bureau (BAU) Hall, last Saturday (6/8).

In the theater event, a total of four groups gave their best performances. There is a theater themed with shamans to the feel of a city that never stops singing. The performers strive and work hard to be able to present an entertaining performance.

On that occasion, Hari said that this activity was the first theater event after two years of the pandemic. This is also the result of the productive literary skills course in the directing competency unit. Through theater performances, students are encouraged to channel their creative ideas which are then channeled to design and execute theater performances.

“Since it has been vacuum for two years, I invite students to discuss the phenomena that occur to be later brought into the storyline. We analyze the actors, media, lighting and stage settings that are brought to the perspective of theatrical performances," he said.

The theater event this time brought the spectacle philosophy to guide. Through this philosophy, students have a basis for carrying out stories while still inserting benevolent values. The reason is because being a student is not only about being creative, but also providing good benefits. "So, regarding the selection of manuscripts to cultivation, we must use these values. Because, we bring the jargon to watch it guides,” he said.

Hari hopes that after the performance, students will have the understanding and ability to direct a theatrical performance. Students are also asked to be able to lead performances and conduct theater coaching when outside of class.

"The goal is of course to encourage them to be able to produce their own theater performances which later when they graduate from college can be a provision to be distributed to their students if they later become teachers," he concluded.

In total there were four groups that held theater performances, namely Sranti Arutali, Oasis, Hawicarita, and Naungan Surau. In addition, to spark the creativity of students, there is also the awarding of the best female supporting actor category to the best female lead actor. Even with the best male supporting role, best male lead role, best director, best artistic and best illustrations.

However, the series of events was not without problems. He said that his colleagues were quite difficult to coordinate. However, all can be overcome so that it can run entertaining. According to him, there are two things about him that have increased, namely his understanding of literature and his concern for literature.

“My friends and I also hope that theatrical events can be well received by the public. especially young people and is able to attract students' interest to watch and love it. Evidently, yesterday there were quite a lot of people who came to enjoy each group's dishes," he concluded. (cdr/ros/wil)
