Mega Baskara: The Local Drama of Elementary Teacher Education Department of UMM

Mega Baskara is an ongoing show held by the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) Elementary Teacher Education Department. Followed by hundreds of participants, the staging of the drama amazed people because of the stories, performances, and music shown on December 29, 2022. Especially with various versions such as folklore, poetry, and dance

The chief of the committee, Naila Zulfaida, explained that the staging of this drama aims to preserve the archipelago's culture and revive folklore. Besides that, it also encourages the youth generation to care about the local culture.

This event is a competition for friends' final assignments. But what is more important is how we participate in maintaining and preserving Indonesian culture," she said

Each team and class tell stories from different islands. There are those from the islands of Java, Sumatra, and Kalimantan to Papua. In this agenda, students are also trained to become organizers, actors, scriptwriters, and music composers so that their performances are attractive. Also, they can feel how the process of performing arts and culture of the archipelago.

Meanwhile, Innany Mukhlishina, M.Pd as the supporting lecturer, said this drama is routinely held yearly. This is also a fun as well as educational end-of-course project.

“The basic Indonesian language learning course that I teach with Ms. Delora Jantung Amelia wants to encourage students and the youth to care more about the local culture. That way, foreign cultures from Europe, America, and South Korea will not be easily eroded," she stressed.

Inany, her nickname, said that this agenda was highly anticipated by PGSD (Elementary Teacher Education Department) students, other students, and the community because it gives an attractive appearance that has been prepared for a long time.

"Through this method, we also want PGSD (Elementary Teacher Education Department) graduates to be multitalented. Have Not only academic abilities and teaching skills, but also have other expertise in non-academic fields," she hoped to conclude. (tar/wil)
