Indonesia is geographically located on the Ring of Fire path and also three large earth plate encounters. This makes Indonesia often experience disasters. Departing from this, Student Volunteer Disaster Preparedness (Maharesigana) in collaboration with Vertical Rescue Indonesia, held a commemoration of Disaster Preparedness Day (HKB), last Tuesday (26/4). Meanwhile, they conduct rescue simulations when a disaster occurs.

Dr. Nur Subeki, ST, . MT as Deputy Chancellor III of UMM said that the HKB warning was a momentum to increase preparedness in dealing with disasters. He is grateful that the volunteers who are there are always alert and ready to help when a disaster strikes. He advised them to continue to increase their vigilance considering the current global warming that makes it difficult to predict disasters.

Eki, as he is known, hopes that the volunteers, especially UMM, can continue to improve their quality and never get tired of learning. Especially, it strategically, field tactics, and plans. He also emphasized the importance of deepening disaster mitigation so that when volunteers go to the field, the process will run properly.

“Disaster mitigation in the process is crucial. Therefore, skills, strategies, and field tactics must be improved," he said.

Meanwhile, Rindya Fery Indrawan, S.Pi., MP as the head of Maharetigana explained that this year's HKB commemoration, the invitation also invited other Student Activity Units (UKM). Such as the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) UMM, Hizbul Wathan (HW) and the UMM Nature Lovers Student Division (DIMPA). Ke, they will become one unit as White Campus volunteers. Interestingly, this HKB commemoration also presents a demo of the experimental method carried out by the team.

"So, this HKB warning is indeed the right moment to increase disaster preparedness. Therefore, you also carry out practice in the field to provide the right rescue knowledge," added Indra.

Meanwhile, Mukti Cahyani as the Maharesigana team admitted that she was happy that HKB could be commemorated again. Given that in previous years, this activity was still hindered by the pandemic. According to him, this agenda can strengthen ukhuwah among Muhammadiyah volunteers and unite SMEs in the field of volunteerism into one family of Muhammadiyah volunteers. (haq/wil)
