Laisya, Archery Athlete Who Becomes the Best Graduate of UMM

Hopped in archery sport since kid, makes Nur Laisya Mayeda to become a gold medalist at the provincial level. The best graduates of the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) for the second period of 2021 have won bronze to gold medals in three years. She has eight gold medals, three silver medals, and one bronze medal in competitions at the Provincial Sports Week (Porprov) of East Java and South Kalimantan.

 

Laisya, as her nickname, said that her talent in archery was inherited from her mother, who is also an archery athlete. She said that her interest in archery grew because since childhood she always looked her mother to practice. “I have been known for archery since I was little. To register at UMM, I enrolled in talent interest enrollment by attaching an international certificate when participating in the BIMP-EAGA archery competition," said the Physiotherapy graduate.

 

Besides being active in the Indonesian Archery Association (Perpani) Malang City, Laiya also often follows international agendas such as the AIESEC Clean Our Planet project which was held for six weeks in Malaysia. Although very active in non-academic activities, Laisya does not forget her academic duties. This eldest of two children, she admitted that initially she only balanced academic and non-academic aspects. She did not expect to be the best graduate in the two-year period in 2021.

 

“At the Physiotherapy Faculty, the schedule is quite tight. I was also left behind in academics in the first semester. When I allowed to take part in the competition, the deparment answered whether I balanced the two. They were afraid that my health down. Since then, I started to enjoy balancing training and academics and managing my time well,” said the graduate from Tapin, South Kalimantan.

 

Laisya admitted that her responsibility to her parents endured and she finished college in four years sharp. Laisya also said that she wanted to be a good example for her sister. “I want to give the best to both parents. After graduating, I also want my knowledge to be useful for the surrounding community without doing my hobbies and interests. The plan is that I will soon follow the next Porprov”, she concluded.
