To improve the quality and capability of its students, the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) continues to open up opportunities for students to study abroad. This time, the Faculty of Psychology at UMM sent its students to participate in Malaysia's Seco Social Support for Migrant Workers program. Each team spends two to three weeks in a neighboring country and implements its agenda.

Related to that, the Chancellor of UMM, Dr. Fauzan M.Pd., feels happy and congratulates the Faculty of Psychology and the departing students. According to him, a program like this can increase skill capacity and students' self-confidence. Fauzan hopes that this program will be held not only in Malaysia but also in other countries.

"Happy studying in another country, seek as much experience as possible, and don't forget to bring the name of UMM there. Keep the spirit, and most importantly, don't forget to notify and ask for blessings from parents, "said Fauzan.

On the other hand, Muhammad Fath Mashuri, S.Psi., M.A as a psychology lecturer and assistant, explained that the purpose of this program is to provide psychological support to Indonesian migrant workers in the embassy. Fath, his nickname, explained that this activity resulted from a collaboration between UMM and the Indonesian embassy. Interestingly, students who participate in this program can also convert grades into courses because they have practiced psychological assessments and interventions.

“The 14 students who departed were divided into two teams. The first team departed on September 12; for two weeks, they conducted research or assessments on the problems experienced by migrant workers there. After the first team reports its assessment, the second team designs a program which then departs on October 3 to apply the plans that have been made,” explained Fath.

In line with what the Chancellor of UMM hoped for, Fath also expected to expand this program to various places to provide psychological support for Indonesian migrant workers. In this way, the benefits provided can be felt by many parties.

Meanwhile, one of the psychology students, Silbia Opnia Rista, admitted that she was lucky to participate. Moreover, this program is of international standard, so it can provide him with a lot of experience. "So I don't just learn the knowledge, but can apply it in society. Hopefully, what I did there can benefit Indonesian migrants," he hoped. (cdr/zak/wil)
