Education has an essential role in the sustainable development of a country. This sentence was conveyed by the Egyptian ambassador to Indonesia, H.E. Ashraf Mohamed Moguib Sultan, at the inauguration of the graduates of the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM). The graduation procession was held at UMM Dome last Thursday (30/6).

Furthermore, Ashraf explained that education is essential in helping the development of industry, agriculture, and economic cycles. Education also shapes society to be able to develop in a better direction. But now, access to relevant knowledge is getting more difficult because the times are getting faster.

"To develop a country's education, there needs to be a collaboration between one country and another. That way, each country can improve the quality of human resources (HR) and community capacity in various fields. This is what Indonesia and Egypt are doing. We do a lot of student exchanges between each country to build better knowledge and understanding," he said.

In developing education in Egypt, Ashraf explained that the government is adjusting the education system to market needs. This was followed by creating regulations that matched the prevailing modern standards. Even with the improvement of the quality of universities and student capacity. "It is also important for us to form an educated young generation and also train them to be a creative and innovative generation," said Ashraf.

In line with Ashraf, UMM Chancellor Dr. Fauzan, M.Pd., also explained the importance of mastering academic knowledge and leadership skills for graduates. UMM has taught these two things through lectures and other activities such as the Student Activity Unit (UKM) and the Semi-Autonomous Institute (LSO).

"To further hone student skills, we will also soon launch a major university program called Center of Excellence (CoE) based on Study Programs (Prodi). This program is created and adapted to the current market needs. Not only for UMM students but also for alumni and the public who want to explore related fields," continued Fauzan.

Not only serves as a means of the inauguration, but this graduation ceremony also facilitates students to sell their entrepreneurial products through the graduation bazaar. Apart from being an effort to make a profit, this bazaar is also a means of introducing products made by UMM students to the broader community.

"This bazaar is quite helpful for those who are waiting for our families to graduate. The products also vary, ranging from snacks and drinks to gifts for graduates such as flower bouquets, snack bouquets, and aromatherapy candles," said Salsabila Shofiya, one of the visitors. (apg/shi/wil)
