The University Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) has launched two Center of Excellence (CoE) programs to equip students with professional skills. The two excellent programs provided by the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) include professional Islamic banking classes and village accounting classes. Both were launched on Monday (11/04) and took place in the UMM BAU Hall.

In its implementation, the two CoE programs will collaborate with various government agencies and the business and industrial world (DUDI). One of them is the Malang Regency government, which will increase as the program progresses. Then several DUDI names were recruited such as Bank Muamalat Indonesia, Bank Syariah Indonesia, P.T. Alami Fintek Sharia, and the People's Financing Bank (BPR) Rinjani. FEB UMM will always add the number of collaborations that have been built according to needs.

Deputy Regent of Malang Drs. H. Didik Gatot Subroto, S.H., M.H. admitted that he appreciated the program initiated by the White Campus. The presence of this program will help students answer the challenges in the future. In addition, according to him, the implementation of the Merdeka Learning Campus Merdeka (MBKM) program through the CoE will open up vast opportunities for all people to learn knowledge outside their fields.

"The local government of Malang Regency indeed welcomes the presence of this program. We hope that CoE UMM can run well. Of course, in the future implementation process, the participants' belief and perseverance must be followed, "said Didik.

On the other hand, UMM Chancellor Dr. Fauzan, M.Pd. Explained that the presence of this program is helpful to provide certainty of graduation and certainty of student independence. His party has planned the construction of a center for future world programs. Therefore, each major is encouraged to build a center of excellence.

"The development of CoE in each of these faculties is also useful for accommodating the diverse passions of students. It also makes White Campus graduates better prepared to work in the professional world. We set a target for the next five years. There will be 1,000 professionals who are requested from UMM. We also hope that our center of excellence will provide clear expertise after students graduate from college," said Fauzan.

In line with Fauzan, the Dean of FEB, Dr. Dra. Idah Zuhroh, MM., explained that this program was held based on several considerations. According to him, the Islamic banking sector currently has several strategic aspects. In the future, this field will meet various challenges and promising opportunities in Indonesia. Seeing this phenomenon, the Development Economics Study Program finally decided to hold a professional class for Islamic banking.

"For the village accounting class, UMM Accounting Study Program sees that 57% of villages in Indonesia are still classified as underdeveloped villages. To look at the shortcomings that exist in village development, it is also necessary to increase the competence of the village apparatus. This quality improvement is also needed for village apparatus candidates, not only for the apparatus," said the lecturer from Pasuruan.

The existing collaboration is felt to bring students closer to the real world that will be faced later. Regarding participant registration, the two FEB centers of excellence are not only limited to FEB UMM students. "We also open registration for students outside FEB and outside UMM. Later, we will select the registrants to be selected as participants in the flagship program finally," he concluded. (cdr/syi/wil)
