New companies engaged in technology have emerged in recent years, or what we are familiar with as startups. These various startups also open up new job opportunities for the younger generation. At UMMTalks this time, the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) invited LinkAja's Vice President of Public Sector Payment, Marcella Wijayanti, to thoroughly discuss the job opportunities of fresh graduates in digital companies. This program was broadcast on Friday (31/12) through UMMtube's live Youtube channel.
Before LinkAja, the woman familiarly called Cella has also been the head of Gojek's sustainability strategy, economic policy advisor at the Presidential Staff office of the Republic of Indonesia, and a policy analyst at the Indonesian Ministry of Education and Culture. She was also the head of payment at LinkAja until now she is the Vice President at the same company.
Cella explained four significant areas in a digital or tech company: the product team, engineering team, business team, and corporate team. The four of them have their respective duties and roles in the company—for example, the engineering team in charge of designing what kind of product and how it looks. Meanwhile, the product team will make the product from start to finish.

"Meanwhile, the business team will manage the marketing method to the public. Then for the corporate team, the function is to establish communication between companies and the wider community. They are also responsible for corporate and financial development. Uniquely, in a digital company, each person can work across divisions. For example, at Gojek, I used to work in the corporate team, and now at LinkAja, I work in the business team," said the former Gojek Head of Sustainability.
Furthermore, Cella said that the opportunity for fresh graduates to work in tech companies is very large. Currently, college majors are not very relevant for some fields of work. One of them is jobs in digital companies. According to her, working in an excellent digital company will help fresh graduates to develop themselves.

"We can learn a lot if we work in the digital sector. Now, they do not look at majors in selecting employees. Digital companies need employees who have good logic, a high desire to learn, accept criticism and suggestions, correct their mistakes and continue to grow. In my opinion, tech companies are a very flexible labor market," said Cella.
In looking for work, Cella gives some suggestions to fresh graduates. The first is to look for companies that bring in a lot of exposure. The second suggestion is not to be easily tempted by high salaries. Usually, fresh graduates will be paid around 4-10 million in Jakarta. If a new graduate gets a salary more than that, you should be wary. Finally, choose a place that provides opportunities for innovation and has a significant learning space.
"Don't choose a safe line of work because you won't thrive. In addition, fresh graduates must possess several skills, there are expressing ideas well , research abilities, capable thinking, having thoughts to continue to grow, and like to try new things. For fresh graduates, you have to work hard and you have to be diligent in what you are doing," she concluded.(cdr/syi/wil)
