The law, a political product, aims to improve social welfare, but resistance from the public often arises. None other than because the laws are made behind the desk. This was conveyed by the Deputy Chairman of the PP Muhammadiyah Diktilitbang Council, Prof. Dr. Khudzaifah Dimyanti, M. Hum. in a focused discussion regarding the Draft Law on the National Education System the Republic of Indonesia. The agenda is a collaboration between the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM), Dikdasmen and Diktilitbang Muhammadiyah Central Leadership.

Furthermore, Khudzaifah assessed that the activity must produce strong arguments and improvements. Mainly in responding to the National Education System, which the government is currently discussing—especially considering the number of expert speakers in their respective fields who have been brought in.

“There are many reliable presenters presented. Start from the general chairman of PB PGRI, education experts from UM, to the Chancellor of UIN Sunan Ampel. This discussion will certainly be more interesting if it involves friends from other organizations. So that the resulting argument has better strength,” he added.

He explained that this bill was the government's will, but it could not be forced on the people. If it is deemed unsuitable, the public can submit a judicial review. In addition, according to him, Muhammadiyah will be more considered and considered if it attracts and cooperates with other parties. Especially in reviewing the National Education System Bill.

On the other hand, UMM Chancellor Dr. Fauzan, M.Pd. Considers that this discussion is one of the efforts to dignify the nation. The government is currently preparing the National Education System Bill. So, of course, academics must contribute and provide input to improve it. This agenda is also to gather thoughts and ideas to improve these regulations.

"This is a moral movement for the dignity of the nation. The model and direction of education determine the future of the nation's civilization that we will be pursuing," said Fauzan.

The same thing was conveyed by the Chairman of the East Java Muhammadiyah Regional Leadership (PWM Jatim), Dr. KH. M. Saad Ibrahim, MA. According to Pancasila, the direction of the nation's movement must be based on religion, which is the basis of the state. The focus of the educational activity of the Republic of Indonesia is no exception, which is, of course, based on religion.

Furthermore, Saad also quoted one of the speakers from Boston University in last year's study of Muhammadiyah's Ramadan related to Islamic education. The speaker considered that the Islamic education designed, implemented, and projected by Muhammadiyah was one of the best. This is inseparable from Muhammadiyah's efforts to promote and integrate the religious and scientific dimensions.

Meanwhile, Deputy Chairperson of the PP Muhammadiyah Elementary and Secondary Education Council, Dr. Sungkowo, M.Si., also hopes that this discussion activity can examine education more deeply to improve the National Education System Bill. "Hopefully, we can get a comprehensive and most recent overview and study result from the presenters. In this way, the discussion that we are holding can trigger interesting contributions to this draft law," he said. (cdr/wil)
