UMM Successfully Hosts the Closing of Pomprov 2022

The excitement of the 2022 Provincial Student Sports Week (Pomprov) competition was officially closed on Wednesday (30/3). The University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM), which was appointed to host the event's closing, completed nicely. Various performances and abilities were displayed to enliven the agenda.

The 2022 Pomprov will be attended by more than 100 campuses in the East Java region. Each campus sends its athletes to compete and get medals. There are more than 3,000 students who participate in 14 sports (sports) in this year's Pomprov event.

Closing the 2022 Pomprov, Head of the East Java Youth and Sports Service (Dispora), Pulung Chausar, S.STP., M.Sc., said that East Java's sports activities had been stopped due to the pandemic. So he appreciates the 2022 Pomprov event. According to him, this competition is one of the efforts to invigorate sports activities among youth and students.

"We are very grateful to Bapomi and universities for enlivening the best event in fostering athletes to achieve achievements in the future," he added.

Pulung also congratulated the athletes and universities who won medals and champions. He advised me not to be complacent and continue to improve the lacking aspects and the achievements that have been achieved. Likewise, universities that have not yet experienced victory must continue to improve their coaching to produce good athletes.

"Even so, younger students, don't forget the main task that must be carried out, namely studying and completing their studies. Hopefully, the success in organizing and achieving this Pomprov can continue at the National Student Sports Week (Pomnas) event later, "he concluded.

On the other hand, UMM Vice Rector III, Dr. Nur Subeki, ST. MT. appreciates the hard work of the committee from the seven universities that host. According to him, this kind of activity can motivate students to keep trying to make achievements. Although the road is steep, the hope of winning will always be there for students who work hard.

"We certainly have to lead students to a bright path. Achieving achievements for the sake of achievement can be recognized and appreciated by the state, "he said.

Meanwhile, the General Chairperson of the Student Sports Development Board (Bapomi), Dr. Muarifin, M.Pd. Grateful that most of the universities in East Java participated in this event. Muarifin assesses two goals to be achieved by holding an event like this. First, as a forum for students to move and hone their potential. Moreover, sports activities have been stopped for quite a while due to the pandemic.

"Second, namely as a place to prepare for the 2022 Pomnas, held in West Sumatra later. Hopefully, we can achieve maximum results in the student sports event," he hoped.

The plan is that the Pomprov schedule will be carried out regularly every two years. Currently, three leading candidates will be appointed to host the next Pomprov event. The three are Kediri, Surabaya and Jember.

At the closing, the top five universities were also announced that managed to occupy the top ranking. Starting from fifth place, UPN Veterans of East Java, Nusantara University PGRI Kediri, Brawijaya University, Surabaya State University, and Malang State University. (cdr/wil)
