In the process of education, the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) continues to support the interests and talents of students. Most recently, UMM released 155 athletes to take part in the East Java (Jatim) Provincial Student Sports Week event (Pomprov) in 2022. The event will take place from March 19 to March 31.

The Head of the Interest-Talent Section, Environmental Development and Foreign Students of UMM, Frendy Aru Fantiro, M.Pd., explained that UMM had prepared athletes for two months to take part in this event. In this event, athletes will compete in 14 sports (Cabor), which are competed during Pomprov.

"This Pomprov is the first offline sports competition in East Java. Therefore, we prepare the selected athletes to take part. Several sports will be followed by UMM athletes, namely football, volleyball, karate, rock climbing, Pencak silat, swimming, and others," said the lecturer at the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP).

Furthermore, Frendy said that in this Pomprov performance, UMM was the host and several other universities in Malang. Meanwhile, UMM athletes had to compete with 2900 other athletes from 120 universities to win championship medals.

"In this competition, UMM athletes will face tough opponents. Moreover, several universities have special departments for sports. Even so, we will try to get into the top five in the East Java Pomprov 2022," explained the lecturer from Malang.

In line with Frendy, UMM Vice Rector III Dr. Nur Subeki, ST., MT also targets UMM athletes to bring home many medals in this competition. To help athletes excel in competing, Eky said that UMM had facilitated athletes with adequate logistics and quarantine facilities. In addition, UMM also dispatched a health team to monitor the condition of the competing athletes.

“With various competitions, UMM athletes will be more trained to compete in future championships. This opportunity is also useful to hone their interests and talents. I hope that in Pomprov this time, the UMM team can give good results,” he said. (cdr/syi/wil)
