Being a student is not only focused on lecture material, but other activities are no less attractive. One of them is through the student activity unit (UKM). This was conveyed by the Head of the Interests and Talents of the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM), Frendy Aru Fantiro, M.Pd., at the UKM Fair UMM on Thursday (23/6). As for the series of UKM Fair, this will take place from 23-25 June.

Interestingly, many SMEs are exhibiting activities and trophies that have been obtained. Ranging from regional to international championships. There are also unique appearances from each UKM so new students, especially the 2020 and 2021 batches, can join. There are band performances, dances, Pencak silat, taekwondo, and other things.

Frendy, his nickname, said that the pandemic had prevented the UKM Fair from being held in the last two years. This is the first UKM exhibition activity that was held to attract students' interest. Especially those in the 2020 and 2021 batches.

"This is also our form and effort in facilitating the potential and achievements of students. This is where they can develop themselves and explore their talents," added Frendy.

Until now, UMM White Campus has 39 activity units that students can follow. That number will continue to grow along with the number of interests and talents. Recently, UMM opened the E-Sport UKM and Blue Flying Club, which became the only aerospace-based UKM in Indonesia.

"So the campus is trying best to form a forum for every student to develop their potential and achieve achievements. Hopefully, with this UKM Fair, students can make better use of their time," he added.

There was UKM based on art, sports, thought processing, and even games at the exhibition. One of the students who often excel is UMM Soccer UKM. The team was able to record champions in several competitions. For example, the 2018 East Java student league champion, Torabika Campus Cup, to the runner-up of the national student league season 7.

"So in this UKM, we try to train like professional players. The trainers are also licensed, and the facilities have been very well prepared. We also have two teams, one core team that will fight in the competition, and then there is also a second team that will be the selection site. Until now, several alumni have played in league 2 and 3 clubs," said UMM Football UKM manager Ichbal Alarikhi.

On the other hand, activity units also focus on art. One of them is the Student Band Activity Association (Ikabama) UMM. There, students will participate in playing music to hold music events. Both online and offline.

They also compose a compilation album of UMM student bands every two years. Several bands have also performed at Kickfest, winning in competitions such as Focus to Garasi Music. Even soon, they will also hold interesting music events offline.

"Of course, we hope to find potential new members from UMM students. We will also provide an appropriate container to maximize our potential. Moreover, the events have only been through online platforms," said Ikabama Chairman Andira. (apg/Will)
