Fostering the Potential of Entrepreneurship, UMM Agribusiness Holds Food Innovation Competition for High Schools

To foster the interest and potential of young people in the field of food business, the Agribusiness University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) organized AGRIFAIR: National Business Plan Competition. As many as 78 high school teams from all over Indonesia competed for the championship. It began in September until the final on October 12. 

Previously, the participating teams selected through proposals based on the titles submitted. There are only 20 teams were eligible to compete in the next round. They presented their latest ideas in front of experienced judges. The idea is focus on the agribusiness and technology sectors in Indonesia.

Ary Bakhtiar, SP, M.Si., the Head of the UMM Agribusiness Study Program, appreciated the enthusiasm and quality of the participants in the event. According to him, they have brought the entrepreneurial spirit to a higher level. They provided food solution innovations with good sales strategies as well.

"The participants are the proof that young people have a highly innovative and business spirit. Hopefully, they can develop it and provide some benefits to others," said Ary.

The first winner of this competition was SMA Muhammadiyah 02 Genteng, Banyuwangi. Then, it followed by MA Husnul Khotimah as the second winner and SMK Muhammadiyah 7 Gondanglegi as the third winner.

As the best team, SMA Muhammadiyah 2 Genteng, Banyuwangi presented a solution innovation for stunting prevention through processed nuggets made from moringa oleifera. They also initiated a snack bar with a variation of moringa leaf addition named "Moringa Island".

Monica, one of the team members from SMA Muhammadiyah 02 Genteng Banyuwangi, expressed her pride in participating in this competition. She hopes that this event will encourage other young people her age to come up with creative ideas, especially in food.

"Thank you to Agribusiness UMM for being able to bring new enthusiasm for me and my friends to keep innovating. Hopefully, it can be useful for the progress of the country. Hopefully, there will be many similar activities in various other places," she ended. (*rev/wil/fajr)
