Technological developments in fact have an impact on many fields. One of them is in the aspect of animal husbandry which is now continuing to develop technology in its production process. This was conveyed by the Electrical Engineering University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM), Dr. Ir. Lailis Syafaah, MT. Recently, he and his team implemented a closed house model for laying hens based on technology 4.0 at PT Jatinom Inda Agri, Blitar, this November. This is the result of the collaboration of the two, whose funding comes from the Ministry of Education and Culture and Research and Technology through the SKIM Kedaireka Matching Fund with FY 2022.

Lailis explained that This cage model is indeed closed which is operated based on the latest technology. That way, humans don't have to intervene much in handling chickens. The advantage is that it can ensure the comfort and health of the chickens in the cage.

“When chickens feel comfortable and healthy, this will have an effect on increasing chicken productivity. This will certainly provide better profits for farmers,” he said.

In this program, there are eight things that are sought. The first is an automatic chicken egg counter so that the results are more accurate. Then there is also monitoring of drinking water discharge and automatic bio-security booths. Even with the automation of temperature and humidity, so that the chickens in the cage are not too hot or cold.

Poultry farm feeder automation is also included along with information systems and egg productivity monitoring. So later there will be data about the productivity of the chickens in the coop. "The last two are the efficiency model of the egg production system for determining the feed needs of laying hens and the solar power generation system," said Lailis who is also the team coordinator.

This program is also an effort of UMM to develop student skills through the Center of Excellence (CoE). For example, CoE Poultry which has been established since 2018 and produces graduates who are competent and in accordance with industry needs. Even with PLTS CoE which will provide practical and theoretical understanding of solar power to be used as electricity. That way, this program will provide more benefits for many parties.

On the other hand, the Operational Management of PT Jatinom Indah Agri, Gunawan Triswanto, considered this program very beneficial for his party and partners. This model is considered to be able to improve and increase egg production. According to him, this research and development is in line with the rapid technological advances.

“Hopefully this program can continue regulary. The livestock sector can also feel the development of technology. Moreover, humans are required to be adaptive in following the times. Universities, in this case UMM, of course always try to provide new knowledge and innovations for the benefit of the community, "said Gunawan. (cdr/*/wil)
