Iim Khoiria, a student of the Indonesian Language and Literature Education Study Program (PBSI) of the Teacher Training and Education Faculty (FKIP) University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) was able to adapt well to the digital era. She has successfully produced novels through multinational digital platforms such as Dreame, Wattpad, and others.

Interestingly, one of her novels, Thalassophobia, has been read by more than 1.4 million people and has received 110 thousand votes. Iim, her nickname says that this is a great achievement. The reason is that she has been thinking about and writing stories for a long time, but she feels it is less interesting for the readers.

“Fortunately, there are several courses in the PBSI Study Program which are very helpful in producing interesting odes and works. Several lecturers also continue to motivate and become discussion partners in the process," she said.

Iim has been interested in the world of writing since she was in junior high school. Meanwhile, she started publishing her first digital novel in 2018 with the title "Amira Azzahra". Then followed by a series of other writings. Until it reaches its peak when Thalassophobia comes to the surface.

"Yes, this novel is my most booming work. Actually, Thalassophobia has been offered by more than 20 indie and semi-major publishers, but at that time I couldn't accept it because there were obstacles in 2021," she continued.

This one novel is a novel that tells the story of a woman with Thalassophobia (excessive fear of the high seas) due to childhood trauma. The related character's biological father almost killed him at sea during a fight with his mother. Also in this novel, Ayana's life is very tossed about. The journey of life, death, and her romance with a doctor is carried here and there.

“After my novel went viral, I was offered the Singapore digital platform, Goodnovel, to be the editor. In addition, it also holds dozens of writers on the platform. Alhamdulillah, the material while studying at UMM such as creative writing, syntax, morphology and others is very useful as a guide for me to write and become an editor," he concluded. (*/wil)
