Dr. M. Irsyad Yusuf, S.E., MMA., has been re-elected as the Chairman of the Muhammadiyah University of Malang (UMM) Alumni Association (IKA) for 2023-2028. The election took place during the national congress of IKA UMM, attended by more than 1,000 guests on November 4th at Finna Golf, Pasuruan. Interestingly, he has previously served in the same position.

Gus Irsyad, as he is often called, stated that it is essential for IKA UMM to progress and thrive. One way to achieve this is by empowering thousands of alumni across Indonesia. If the bonds of friendship and connections remain strong, working together for mutual benefits will be easier.

"If we compare it to a choir group, I am just the conductor. It is the friends and alumni who move and strive. Hopefully, the mandate I have been given can pave the way for contributions," he said.

In addition to being re-elected as the Chairman of IKA UMM, Gus Irsyad also holds the position of Vice Chairman of the National Coordination Unit (Wakasatkornas) of Banser. This further solidifies his reputation as a leader with exceptional qualities.

Gus Irsyad also shared his experience of receiving a national-level award. He expressed his pride as Muhadjir Effendy, the former UMM rector currently serving as the Minister of Human Development and Culture (PMK), directly mentioned him as an UMM alumnus while presenting the award.

"Let us all pray that our teachers are always blessed with good health. Likewise, our colleagues are always blessed, too. May they become successful entrepreneurs, educators, and honest and successful politicians," he said after re-election.

On the other hand, UMM Rector Prof. Dr. Fauzan, M.Pd., mentioned several instruments that need to be embraced collectively. This includes elements that can serve as communication channels and functional relationships between alumni and UMM. For example, the Community Development Catalyst Professor (P3M) program exists.

By collaborating with various local governments (Pemda), experts from the White Campus directly contribute to society. This includes developing organic farming in Bondowoso, Jember, and Subak Bali. Similarly, the cultivation of shallots in Nganjuk Regency and various other regions exists. This ensures that the knowledge possessed by professors is truly implemented and used for the greater good.

"Another equally strategic program is the Center of Excellence (CoE). Currently, universities only produce generic graduates. They are so generic that new graduates don't know where to go. Therefore, through CoE, UMM strives to produce specific and needed human resources for the business world and the industry (DUDI)," explained Fauzan.

According to him, by participating in CoE, students graduate with precise expertise and skills. It means having specific competencies. UMM offers 42 CoE options, such as shrimp schools, metaverse schools, assistant lawyer schools, AI schools, etc. All students can participate without being restricted by their majors.

"CoE is a brilliant breakthrough. Establishing a study program involves many preparations. Besides being costly, there must also be human resources inside it. The presence or absence of students when the program is opened is also a consideration," Fauzan added.

Regarding IKA UMM, the National Congress serves as a platform for unity and is filled with inclusive values. Similar approaches are taken in developing the UMM institution. Various figures from different backgrounds, such as priests and Gus Baha, are invited. Recently, the White Campus also collaborated with the Forum for Harmony among Religious and Cultural Communities (FKUB) to organize the Youth Pledge Day, attended by 78 religious and cultural organizations. (Wil/Fajr)
