The announcement of the Seleksi Nasional Berbasis Tes (SNBT) (trans: National Test-Based Selection) has just been released on June 20. Many participants were grateful for being accepted, but some felt disappointed because they failed to enter their dream campuses.

Responding to this, Psychology Lecturer at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) Dr. Iswinarti, M.Si. said that many prospective students were disappointed because their dreams of entering their dream university were unrealized. They can experience stress or even severe depression.

"When someone is already stressed when they don't pass the college entrance exam, the support system from family and friends must be provided. This can support the person to reduce their regret," said the lecturer, who is familiarly called Iswinarti.

People suffering from stress should be encouraged to look at the current reality. Usually, when someone expects something high, they will imagine many possibilities when they succeed later. "Aiming as high as possible is a must for every individual. But it must also be balanced with the ability to see reality and what they have at that time. So that when it is not achieved, they can control themselves," she added.

Iswinarti also added that when they intend to take the exam, at the same time, they must also be prepared with two possibilities, accepted or rejected. If they succeed, then they should be grateful. But if they fail, the value that must be instilled is that the campus is not their path. It should be followed by trust and confidence that other and better routes may be available.

"For example, when they are destined to enter a private university, they do not have to be discouraged. Later on, based on the experiences they go through, they will realize that of all the processes, this is the best choice for themselves," she added.

When a person is initially prepared to put in the effort, have faith, and realize that failure is a possibility, they can learn to accept the situation and avoid getting down.

"We must be able to prepare a second option for our plans. Therefore, when the first plan is not accomplished, we can still work on the second one. Even with the roads that can be taken later," she concluded. (put/fat/wil)
