Teacher Professional Education (PPG) University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) is committed to producing professional educators. One of them is realized through implementing substantive tests for prospective PPG students throughout Indonesia. Thousands of prospective students competed for a place in professional education on Monday (25/7) in dozens of rooms on the White Campus.

Coordinator of PPG UMM Dr. Trisakti Handayani, MM. She explained that this test was intended for prospective pre-service students in 2022. The implementation was carried out simultaneously with 45 Educational Personnel Education Institutions (LPTK) throughout Indonesia, one of which was UMM. Meanwhile, the regulations and conditions for admission are held directly by the center, in this case, the Directorate General of Teachers and Education Personnel (GTK) of the Ministry of Education and Culture and Research and Technology.

"So the policy is from the center, but the organizers are 45 LPTKs throughout Indonesia. In the learning process, it will also be carried out by each LPTK, including UMM. In total, 1650 participants took the test at UMM White Campus and became one of the most," she added.

Trisakti, as she is known, continued that there are three tests that prospective students must take. It started with an administrative test done some time ago, then took a substantive examination. If they pass, they will step into the interview process, the final test.

According to her, the interview test is a selection process that determines whether prospective students have a calling to become a teacher. Moreover, teachers are often the umpteenth choice and finally only done carelessly. Educators are an essential factor in building a nation.

"Currently, teachers are the determinants of the future of a nation. If the education is good, the greater the opportunity to create a generation that is reliable and able to compete. Not only domestically but also globally. Besides that, it is also an effort to realize the golden generation of Indonesia in 2045," she said.

Until now, UMM White Campus has become the number one private university (PTS) that receives PPG quotas from GTK Kemendikbud-ristek. This campus is also included in the top seven universities with the largest PPG student quota, even with a reasonably high graduation percentage, which is consistently above 82%.

Trisakti said three essential aspects determine how much quota the LPTK will get, in this case, the campus. First, how good is the quality and quality of the relevant LPTKs. The extent to which it can apply and produce capable graduates. Second is the organizers' commitment to making teachers with four competencies: professional, pedagogical, social, and personality.

"Then the last one is facilities and infrastructure. What is the readiness of LPTKs to provide qualified facilities to produce professional teachers and educators. That way, realizing the golden generation of Indonesia in 2045 is not just a dream but will happen," said the lecturer from Madiun. (cdr/wil)
