Preserving culture can be done through various activities. One is through painting exhibitions and traditional dance competitions created throughout Java and Bali by the Semi-Autonomous Institute (LSO) of Jalu Art Studio, Faculty of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry, University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM). The schedule, which will be held on August 8-10, 2022, is the result of collaboration with the Artiknesian Community.

LSO supervisor Jalu Devi Dwi Siskawardani, S.TP., M.Sc., explained the exciting theme of "Looking for a Dalang" (Dirgahayu Ideals of the Country in Shackles). According to him, this theme seeks to produce artists with high spirits, mainly the students who will continue and preserve the culture.

Devi, as she is affectionately known, judged that one way to realize one's dreams is through work. Including traditional dances that have received less attention from young people. Even with exciting paintings that can produce.

Regarding the dance competition, there are several evaluation criteria in the competition. They start with the suitability of the theme of the competition. Then also, wiraga or choreography shows the compatibility between the various dance movements and the synopsis of the storyline. Then there is also cohesiveness between dancers, formations, and the last attraction. The three aspects of wiraga must match and be in tune to produce a slick appearance.

In addition, the aspect of wirasa (expression) also needs to be considered. Namely to identify the shrewdness and flexibility of the dancers in interpreting each movement through expression. At the same time, the assessment of Wirama (music) is to analyze the suitability of rhythm in motion when dancing. How well the music is used so that it doesn't deviate too much from the dance. Even with wirupa (nature), which assesses the nature shown from the whole body in every movement.

"The artistic aspect (costume) also has a part in the assessment. That is how good the costume creations and props prepared by each team are to support the appearance and convey the storyline," she added.

On that occasion, a series of the jury were present to judge. There were Asrofi, S.Pd, M.Pd, Fandi Firdaus, S.Pd from Malang Fair Dance, and Ki Sutopo from the East Java Arts Council. All three are considered very competent and objective in the assessment process. (apg/wil)
