The University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) developed metaverse technology to respond to the rapid disruption era. The "Kick off UMM Metaverse Project & UMM-GCU Game Jam" activity started last Friday (24/6). UMM Chancellor Dr. Fauzan, M.Pd., said that the metaverse would be the first step for UMM White Campus to use as a functional media and academic visibility at the university.

According to him, if it is effective, UMM may continue to use and develop it better. Fauzan also emphasized that UMM had designed an institution that would later serve as the Center for Future of Work (CFW). So, to make it happen, he hopes that all study programs can have a Center of Excellence (CoE).

"Later on, each study program has a center of excellence used as an academic commodity and can answer future challenges. Engineering programs like this are also expected to be a pioneer in strengthening UMM's CFW," he added.

UMM is currently building a CFW, a digital-based human resource development center in the Singhasari Special Economic Zone (SEZ). White Campus has also invested in various things to make this happen. Through this program, it is hoped that tremendous and capable human resources will be scattered in the world of work, especially UMM alumni.

Meanwhile, UMM White Campus is currently identifying problems and types of work that will arise in the future. His party also does not only approach through study programs in responding to the dynamics of external life but also uses the CoE approach.

"We are committed to developing the potential of students based on passion. One of them is through this metaverse. So if there are students, be they engineering students or even animal husbandry students, who want to explore it, they can directly enter the UMM metaverse program. In the future, we will continue to innovate and never stop providing the best solutions for the community," said Fauzan.

On the other hand, the Chairman of the Institute for Arts, Culture, and Sports (LSBO) PP Muhammadiyah Drs. Syukriyanto, M. Hum. hopes that UMM White Campus can become a university that has a research center. Mainly in technology, agriculture, health, and a series of others. He also reminded us that universities should always be able to produce great human resources with a strong will.

"There are several things we can do. Starting with maximizing the practice of the Koran, developing human resources, and increasing the economy to open up many jobs. If we can do this, this can prove that Muhammadiyah, especially UMM, can build peace and prosperity".

Meanwhile, the Dean of the UMM Faculty of Engineering, Prof. Ir. Ilyas Masudin, MLogSCM., Ph.D., says if the metaverse project goes well. Likewise, with classes, students and lecturers will get used to communicating through virtual worlds.

"UMM will be one of the places where history emerges. It is a great first step towards starting a metaverse-based education. So, we must also support all the good steps that have been prepared regarding the Center for Future of Work," he explained.

Meanwhile, Galih Wasis Wicaksono, M.Cs., as the Head of the Informatics Study Program, hopes that all parties can participate in building this metaverse project. That way, many people will be able to experience the metaverse in the future. Galih, the driver of the UMM metaverse program, also invites campuses throughout Malang to be involved in the metaverse development. Thus, the creative ecosystem in Malang can be more massive and advanced. In addition, it can also attract a lot of public interest. "Hopefully, what we are trying to do can bear fruit and be useful for many people," he concluded. (cdr/ros/wil)
