In 2023, there will be around 40 thousand prospective teachers produced by the teacher profession program (PPG). Unfortunately, the number of retired teachers is more than 70 thousand. Thus, PPG participants were asked to take classes and exams seriously to pass. It was conveyed by the Dean of the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, University of Muhammadiyah Malang (FKIP UMM), Dr. Trisakti Handayani, M.M., in the orientation of PPG UMM. Hundreds of students offline followed the agenda.

Furthermore, Trisakti also encourages students to be able to pass the student competency test for the teaching profession program (UKMPPG). Otherwise, there will be a shortage of teachers in the future. In addition, seriously following all processes means that the participants have helped the government realize progressive education.

“So, from now on, you must promise yourself, UMM, and the government who have provided opportunities and scholarships to forge yourself at PPG. Take advantage of this opportunity and become a teacher for future leaders,” said Trisakti.

On the other hand, UMM Chancellor Dr. Fauzan, M.Pd., assesses that a successful teacher is a teacher who can lead his students to improve the dignity of the nation. Thus, the teacher becomes the spearhead of printing a future generation that is considered.

As prospective teachers, PPG students are asked to understand that 2030 is the beginning of the peak of demographics. The point is that the number of productive age will soar higher than those who are not effective. It is undoubtedly a strategic opportunity for Indonesia to become one of the world's major economic powers.

"This moment can be an advantage or a disaster for Indonesia. It all depends on the preparation of human resources (HR) in the future. Of course, the children who are now in primary and secondary schools are the holders of the leadership sticks in those years," explained the Chancellor from Kediri.

He asked PPG students to imagine how the condition of the students in the future. Are they able to face challenges and changes, or are they left behind and lost, even with the situation that will occur in Indonesia, whether it can achieve the vision of Indonesia gold 2045 or vice versa.

"This opportunity should not only be used to obtain certificates. But you must understand that this process is also part of preparing yourself to become a teacher who can develop their students to live in the future. If the teacher's mentality is only to go to work and home, this nation's civilization is finished. Of course, the human resources are unreliable," said Fauzan. (cdr/wil)
