Indonesia has recently been buzzing with news about the death of Brigadier J, who was allegedly killed by the Police General. Of course, there are cases involving internal police killings that make the image of the police deteriorate. The National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo said a few days ago that because of this case, the image of the police decreased by 23% and became a big PR, especially the Public Relations of the Police.

Jamroji, S. Sos, M. Comms. as a lecturer in the Communication Studies Study Program, UMM, said that the steps taken by the Public Relations of the National Police had recently been right. Mainly in improving the bad image of the police in society. The expertise of the Police in handling this case is considered swift to reveal the real facts to the public, although later the impact will spread to many people.

“From a crisis management perspective, it's good, because the National Police Chief directly spoke in front of the media. Of course, this is an opportunity for the Police to turn the crisis into something positive. Solve it objectively and don't manipulate information again," he said.

Jamroji, as he is known, explained that the crisis management faced by the Public Relations of the Police was to control all information flows from the center to the regional levels. It is feared that the central government will have transparently constructed and framed it, but in the regions, it is the opposite.

“The most important thing is that the Police must be able to control it from the bottom up. As long as the case is taken care of, don't let anything injure the community's sense of justice,” he stressed.

He emphasized to the Police to be able to swiftly convey information quickly and factually, especially during the current era of social media. As a result, the public can receive information very quickly and is extremely fragmented based on the selected media. "The police media center must have a newsroom regarding any information that needs to be conveyed and executed to all social media," explained Jamroji.

Furthermore, people nowadays seek information not only from mainstream media or news but from social media. Moving on from this, the Police must also dive into social media as a means of conveying information quickly and responsively.

“Social media is not only used as a forum for posting achievements, but also commenting on every complaint on social media. If it is only used as a place to post and then stay, then, of course, it seems to have betrayed the interactive nature of social media, "said Jamroji.

For him, because the police are a public institution, public relations in companies are very different from public institutions such as the police. Because there are a lot of people who highlight the police and the public has the right to get information.

“Polri public relations workers must have special skills, namely integrity. Because the Indonesian National Police has an identity crisis, public relations people must have high integrity. It means not taking sides with A or B, but taking sides with the right one. If the police have integrity and professionalism, then everything will be smooth. There are still police officers who lack integrity and professionalism in carrying out their duties. We still find many candid videos of bribery incidents to officers," said Jamroji

The lecturer who graduated from the School of Communication and Arts alumni, Edith Cowan University, Western Australia reminded the National Police that it is not only public relations who are obliged to have integrity but all members of the National Police who are obliged to have integrity. Because all members of the police are public relations. The good or bad image of the police depends on the person. "PR now is to make sure that all members of the police are public relations from the police themselves," he concluded (ros/wil)
