Muhammadiyah is no longer talking at the primary level but has been playing at the expert level and has become a pioneer. This was confirmed by Sutrisno Lukito, Founder of the People's Economy Institute, at the Muhammadiyah Banking coordination meeting and the implementation of the ISS system for the East Java Muhammadiyah Regional Leadership (PWM East Java). The agenda, which was held on April 12 at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) Rayz Hotel, was attended by several figures and experts to discuss economics, including the development of Bank Pembiayaan Rakyat Syariah (BPRS) (Trans: Islamic People's Financing Banks).

Sutrisno, his nickname, continues that the formed BPRS will become the pioneer of Muhammadiyah Banking in the future. To get that, East Java PWM must become the pioneer to initiate economic jihad. Muhammadyah can start with the capital as small as possible and produce as much as possible.

"Of course there must be a target that is made and aimed at. For example, with a capital of 400 billion rupiah, in two years you have to produce 4 trillion rupiah. I think the target is very realistic considering the Muhammadiyah network is so big. This is an extraordinary investment," said Sutrisno.

He also explained how the focused financial applications would provide convenience. For example, payments for Muhammadiyah hospitals can be made through the Bank Muhammadiyah application, even with financing drugs, schools, etc.

Vice Chairperson for Community Empowerment, MSMEs, and the PWM East Java Halal Industry, Dr. Nazaruddin Malik, M.Sc, was also present. He explained that Muhammadiyah was very good at providing health, education, and social solutions. So, currently, Muhammadiyah has to spread its wings for economic development, which aims to overcome the problem of economic inequality in society.

"It's not just the economic seminars, but it can make a contribution and breakthrough for the welfare of the people," added the man who was vice-chancellor II of UMM.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of East Java PWM, Dr. dr. Sukadiono MM. said that East Java PWM must be a pioneer and a role model for other Muhammadiyah members. Moreover, economic jihad was also emphasized at the Muktamar Muhammadiyah in Makassar several years ago. According to him, the economic jihad being promoted still needs to be improved.

"UMM may have taken a role in implementing economic jihad with its business units. So, it must be transmitted to perguruan tinggi Muhammadiyah (PTM) (Trans: Muhammadiyah tertiary institutions) and other pimpinan daerah Muhammadiyah (PDM) (Trans: Muhammadiyah regional leaders) so that it will provide more benefits," he said.

Sukadiono also emphasized that in economic jihad, one has to look at the various potentials of each region. For example, in Jombang, which is currently developing a laying hen farm in collaboration with BPRS UMM in running it, other Muhammadiyah friends can emulate this.

Lastly, UMM Chancellor Dr. Fauzan, M.Pd., said that his party was ready to support the establishment of BPRS. This is following the economic jihad that Muhammadiyah has been promoting so far. It is also one of the efforts to contribute, share, and make breakthroughs for the welfare of society. (put/wil)
