Prof. Dr. Nazaruddin Malik, M.Si. officially leads the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) as the definitive rector for the period 2024-2028. This decision is based on a decree (SK) on the appointment of the UMM rector which has been signed by the Chairman of the Muhammadiyah Central Leadership (PP) Prof. Dr. Haedar Nashir, M.Si. and General Secretary of PP Muhammadiyah Prof. Dr. Abdul Mu'ti, M.Ed. Nazaruddin will begin his work as rector as of February 1, 2024 according to the appointment decree Number 7/KEP/I.0/2024.
In response to this, Nazaruddin expressed his gratitude to the entire academic community of UMM, the University Senate, the Daily Supervisory Board (BPH), and PWM East Java for the smooth and elegant rector selection process. Furthermore, he also thanked PP Muhammadiyah through the chairman and other PP Muhammadiyah officials.
"I hope I am always given health and strength to carry out this very significant mandate. I ask for prayers and collective support from all elements on campus. All lecturers, staff, and students should work together towards a better UMM," he added.
According to him, the greatness of the UMM campus cannot be separated from the leadership of its predecessors, who have worked sincerely and hard. So, various good programs will be continued with a touch of innovation so that UMM will grow and develop. "May Allah SWT continue to guide all of us," he hoped.

Previously, UMM went through various processes in the rector selection effort, starting with the election and establishment of the UMM Senate. This was followed by the formation of the rector selection committee for the 2024-2028 period. The next steps included socialization and recruitment in each faculty, resulting in the emergence of candidate names. More than 14 candidates were identified.
Candidate verification was also conducted to ensure all candidates met various criteria. Then, the Senate deliberated, voted, and appointed the rector candidate for the White Campus. Based on the data from the recruitment process, Nazar received the majority of endorsements, as proposed by 11 faculties. The candidates in the second and third positions each received three and two endorsements. With this result, the Senate and participants agreed and ultimately designated Nazar to be proposed to PP Muhammadiyah as the elected UMM rector by acclamation. While waiting for the official inauguration ceremony by the Chairman of PP Muhammadiyah, Prof. Nazarudin Malik has already officially become the rector who will lead UMM for the next four years.

"Yes, that's correct. There is already an official appointment letter regarding the appointment of the UMM rector. The SK has also been duly signed by the chairman and secretary of PP Muhammadiyah.
