Advances in technology in the digital field encourage the creation of new jobs. Seeing this opportunity, the Communication Studies Study Program (IKOM) of the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) established the Center of Excellence (CoE) Creative Digital Communications flagship program. This program is expected to help bring students closer to the industrial world.

The Head of the IKOM Study Program, Nasrullah, S.Sos, M.Sc., said that this program was established based on the direction of future developments in the world of communication. According to him, communication will develop in digital communication and creative industries. Therefore, in this CoE program, four excellent classes have been held that focus on these two fields.

“The first classes that we will open in this program are digital branding, public relations (PR), and marketing. In the second class, there is content development and digital videography. In the third class, we opened Digital Journalists. Then lastly, there are copywriting and media analyst classes. Each class will have a different period depending on the curriculum taken, starting from two weeks, one month, to one semester,” explained Nasrullah.

Furthermore, Nasrullah explained that later in this CoE program, Ikom UMM would cooperate with several institutions such as the association of district governments throughout Indonesia (APKASI) and the association of the Indonesian archipelago coastal governments (Aspeksindo). Ikom UMM has also started exploring partners with several companies such as NET and Kawan Sehat Indonesia Application.

"Alhamdulillah, many companies are interested in this special class program that we have developed. Several companies have also asked to make separate classes recruit professionals in their companies," said the Communication Studies UMM lecturer.

Regarding the participants, Nasrullah said that this program accepts everyone who has an interest in the four classes that have been provided. However, the four classes will be divided according to the participant's level of education. The levels consist of high school or vocational high school graduates, students from UMM and outside UMM, and workers' levels.

"We will concentrate all activities in the UMM Communication Studies Laboratory, but we can send instructors to several areas. Participants can also get a certificate from the Professional Certification Institute (LSP) or companies that have worked with us. Especially for UMM students, apart from getting a certificate, the scores obtained through the CoE program can also be converted into several courses or a Certificate of Companion Diploma (SKPI)," explained Nasrullah.

Apart from introducing students to the world of industry, this program is an excellent way for students to practice hands-on with a trusted partner, likewise, by providing certainty to the public regarding career paths after graduating from IKOM UMM.

"In the future, I am sure that communication science will have a bright future. Therefore, as an educational institution, we must provide the best way for students to be able to learn, one of which is through this CoE program," he said (cdr/syi/wil)
