The University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) never stops proving itself as an Excellent campus. Most recently, the Social Welfare Department of UMM successfully achieved the title of Excellence. The achievements issued by the National Accreditation Board for Higher Education (BAN-PT) have been implemented from last March until October 2023.
Head of UMM Social Welfare Study Program, Dr. Oman Sukmana, Drs., M.Sc., explained that the Social Welfare Study Program (Kesos) achieved excellent accreditation with satisfactory scores. With this achievement, UMM became the second Social Health study program that holds the Excellent Accreditation in Indonesia.
"For this achievement, the Social Welfare Department of UMM is often used as reference material and provides consultation to other universities. Some time ago, we also had guests from other universities who wanted to discuss and consult," he added.
Furthermore, Oman said that to support the creation of the Social Welfare Study Program as an Excellent Department, his party has also held innovative special classes. The program is named the Center of Excellence (CoE) for community empowerment skills class. In addition to functioning to improve the competence of students' hard skills and soft skills, this program also acts to give birth to a generation that can empower the community well.
"The development of this center of excellence, apart from helping students prepare, is also felt to be able to help the community. Over time, we also continue to add strategic partners such as collaborating with the Ministry of Social Affairs, Ministry of Public Works and Housing (PUPR RI), Persyarikatan Muhammadiyah, and several other institutions, "explained Oman.
Regarding acquiring Excellent accreditation, Oman considered that this achievement could not be separated from the contributions of study program friends and all stakeholders who helped—starting from the leading study programs to the implementation stage, supported by the Study Program Management Unit (UPPS).
Even so, Oman and UMM Social Welfare Study Program were not satisfied. His party wants to be istiqomah to bring the study program to a higher target. One of them is international accreditation as a wider recognition. In addition, it also improves the quality of education through the establishment of the Independent Accreditation Institute (LAM), which was initiated by 14 associations, including the Association for Social Welfare Education and Indonesian Social Workers (ASPEKSI).
"After achieving this excellence, Social Welfare Study Program will prepare the Accreditation Rating Monitoring and Evaluation Instrument (IPEPA). So that UMM Social Welfare Science does not need to extend its accreditation for five years and still obtain Superior Accreditation. We will focus on obtaining international accreditation if the plan is successful," concluded Oman. (cdr/ros/wil)
