The Development Economics Department (EP) of the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) expanded its collaboration. They recently hooked up with Alami Fintech last Wednesday (20/7) to produce skilled students and alumni. In addition to the memorandum of understanding (MoU), a guest lecture on central banking was held, which invited a series of speakers with the theme "Financial Institutions Persistence on Digital Reform."

Firmansyah Shiddiq Wardhana, on the Fintech Natural Team, explained that the banking world is experiencing a financial evolution. This has resulted in the shift of the conventional financial system to digital. So, it is necessary to improve the quality of human resources (HR) capable of digital.

"This is also a great opportunity for the Islamic economy to continue to develop and advance. Especially considering that Indonesia is filled with various Islamic communities," he said.

Also attending the agenda were representatives of Bank Indonesia (BI) Malang, Hendra Wangsa. He said that centralized payments had shifted from conventional to digital. BI is currently enabling non-cash payments, starting with one payment system, Qris.

According to him, the evolution of this payment started with credit cards. It then shifted to online payments, even with the payment model in supermarkets and SMEs that already use a virtual currency system. "We are still working on this non-cash payment. One of them is through socialization to MSME actors and the wider community," he said.

On the other hand, the Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) UMM, Dr. Idah Zuhroh., M.M., considered that during the Covid-19 pandemic, the Indonesian economy experienced a significant decline. So, when the common era returns, Indonesia must immediately improve its economy correctly. Interestingly, Indonesia was not like most countries that experienced a recession during the pandemic.

"Regarding supervision, the prosecutor's office has properly monitored banks in Indonesia. Meanwhile, BI is more in charge of macro-supervising other banks so that Indonesia's financial circulation remains stable," she added.

Idah, her nickname, hopes that the digitalization of Indonesia's finances can be achieved in the aspect of inclusion. Even literacy in digitalization can be balanced with inclusion, especially in the digital transformation of the banking world.

"This is a potential as well as a challenge for us in developing Islamic banking. Moreover, we see an opportunity in helping the financial system for MSMEs during the times," she added. (cdr/haq/wil)
