Participating in Teacher Professional Education (PPG) is not just about getting certificates and formalities. But also efforts to prepare quality human resources (HR) in determining the future of Indonesia. This was conveyed by the Chancellor of the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM), Dr. Fauzan, M.Pd., in the academic orientation of PPG UMM last Monday (18/7).

On the same occasion, PPG UMM also launched 16 Intellectual Property Rights (IPR), the collaborative work of students and lecturers. A series of IPRs are in the form of posters, methods, and student worksheets. This is proof that PPG Kampus Putih continues to innovate and develop its students.

Fauzan considered that the existing PPG system had the aim of delivering participants to have high qualifications. Even with the competencies they have. That way, teachers can improve the quality of human resources through learning. Especially in welcoming the demographic bonus, which will start in 2030, and Indonesia will be gold in 2045.

"Brothers and sisters must be able to understand the era in the next 20 years. What will our world be like. This must be material for our contemplation so that we can provide significant innovation and change. Like it or not, we also have to change with the changing times," said Fauzan.

According to him, the most critical investment is education investment because the quality of human resources will determine the color of civilization that Indonesia will achieve.

The PPG UMM students in the 2022 category I PPG study program reached 945 people. Thirty-five of them are from the field of Indonesian, 35 are in English, 35 are PKN, and as many as 840 are from the field of elementary school teacher education. The hundreds of students came from various provinces in Indonesia. Regarding the graduation rate, in recent years, PPG UMM managed to reach more than 85% who successfully graduated from this program.

"So, a teacher must be able to become a professional educator who teaches, educates, guides, directs, trains, assesses, and evaluates students. The hope is that competent young stick holders will be born in the future," he said.

Fery, as he is known, said that the primary strategy of the Ministry of Education and Culture is to form existing schools into driving schools filled with driving teachers. There are several main programs of the Directorate General of Teachers and Education Personnel. These include the transformation of educational leadership and the development of the teacher learning ecosystem in each province.

"Besides that, we also strive to empower the educational community in cooperation and good human resource governance regulations. I hope this PPG process can be one of the reasons to create a better educational environment," he concluded. (apg/wil)
