Nowadays, financial activities are increasingly integrated with cyberspace. These range from bank accounts credit cards, to digital wallets. All financial information has become an interesting target for cybercriminals. Along with this, University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) lecturer Ir. Denar Regata Akbi, S.Kom, M.Kom. discussed several important aspects that need to be considered to improve cybersecurity in digital accounts or wallets.

One of the main cyber security threats to digital wallets is web phishing. Usually, web phishing is committed by sending fake links. Through these fake links, they attempt to obtain confidential information such as passwords or other data to break into and gain access to the financial application.

" Most of the time, phishing is done online or through email. The attacker deceives the user by sending a link that is nearly the same. They only change the size of the letters in the URL, but the user usually doesn't pay attention to that detail. Thus, we immediately click and get redirected to the wrong website," said the Informatics Engineering lecturer.

On the other hand, cybersecurity attacks also involve social tactics known as social engineering. Cybercriminals use psychological manipulation to obtain confidential information. Denar said that social engineering can make users give up various personal data. Therefore, he reminds us always to be aware of people who ask for confidential information via phone, email or text message.

Another method the attacker uses can also be through hotspot or wifi services, especially since users do not know the security perimeter; thus, when someone connects their device to wifi or hotspot carelessly and opens internet banking or m-banking. It will put them at risk of being attacked.

"The malware suddenly got in quickly and was able to take the important information, and eventually, the m-banking was hacked," he said.

Denar also suggests carefully downloading applications from the App Store or Play Store. Make sure that the app is credible and trusted. Likewise, it enables strong security features, such as two-factor authentication.

According to him, it is crucial to understand that no security system is entirely qualified. Everyone needs to be more aware of it. Denar suggests that people always have a sense of caution and be suspicious of things that look strange and unusual.

"As well as being careful not to be tricked by social tactics, we should not log into hotspots carelessly. Especially to open Internet banking or other digital wallets. Last but not least, try not to store passwords on the internet. Using Google safe browsing to minimize the occurrence of things like this can also be done as protection," he concluded. (Nel/Wil/Put)
