There is something different from Sengkaling Culinary University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) at the beginning of last September. Hundreds of singers from various campuses attended the East Java Regional Art Week (Peksimida) competition. UMM became one of the campuses trusted by the Indonesian Student Art Development Board (BPSMI) to hold a solo pop competition. This event aims to foster student achievement, interest, and talent, especially in the arts and culture.

Ima Wahyu Putri Utami, S.Pd., M.Pd, the Chief Executive of Peksimida, said that UMM was considered to have good facilities. BPSMI also sees UMM White Campus as a big campus with various achievements. "UMM welcomes this activity with open arms and strongly supports this activity, both materially and non-materially. Moreover, culinary sengkaling is also the right choice because it has charm and a neat venue," said the PGSD lecturer.

There are a total of seven campuses in East Java that will host. Meanwhile, UMM White Campus had the opportunity to handle a solo pop competition. There are also more participants participating in the competition than in other branches. 48 participants compete with each other to win.

"We certainly hope that Peksimida at UMM will become not only a competition venue but also a forum for friendship between universities in East Java. They were introducing UMM and its business units, such as Sengkaling, Rayz Hotel, RSU UMM, and a series of others. Moreover, many spectators were also present to support and enliven the event," she added.

On the other hand, one of the female Pop Singers competition participants, Salma Arshanty Rezanuardine, was happy to participate in the Peximida competition at UMM. Previously, she had also participated in a singing competition, but this competition had a different vibe for him. This cannot be separated from her responsibility, especially when she became the host.

"Although I have participated in singing competitions several times, Peksimida makes me nervous this time. Moreover, it was attended by the vice-chancellor who directly supported me," said the 2021 student.

The student, often called Salma, beat the other participants and won 2nd place in the female solo pop category. She hopes that she can continue to walk and achieve her dreams. One of them is through this Peksimida road. "Hopefully, when there is a competition like this again, I can represent UMM, make UMM proud, and become a singer according to my dreams," she concluded.
