Achievement after achievement was inscribed by students of the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM). Most recently, Fajerin Trihadi Wicaksono, a Civil Engineering student at the White Campus, won a bronze medal in the Taekwondo branch on Sunday (20/3). The competition is part of a long series of the 2022 East Java Provincial Student Sports Week (Pomprov).

Ajin, his nickname, admitted that he did not expect that he would be able to win a medal. Moreover, the initial target was to gain experience considering this was the first prestigious competition. "Not to mention that several participants used to live in regional training centers (puslatda). So indeed, the coach and I are targeting to gain experience but give the best effort and performance," he added.

Meanwhile, Ajin and other UMM Taekwondo athletes only had three weeks of intensive training. According to him, the time is short and must be appropriately utilized. Moreover, many athletes from the White Campus are still at home, so joint training is felt less than optimal.

The youngest child said that his biggest motivation was to make his parents proud and, at the same time, make the campus proud in taekwondo. His participation in taekwondo is also relatively new because he learned taekwondo movements at the beginning of his lecture.

Asked about the next competition, Ajin admitted that his confidence rose because he had won a medal. He hopes to win a series of matches with this high confidence that awaits. Be it at the regional, national, and even international levels.

"There is no result that betrays effort and prayer. As long as these two things are done well and consistently, sooner or later, success will come at the right time," said the student from Kupang.

There are at least three keys that make Ajin able to win. First, namely, a firm intention coupled with mature plans. Then also, hard work never stops practicing. Although many are more significant, all athletes must have weaknesses. The last key is never to give up and always try new things.

"I think this medal that I won is not only a source of encouragement for me but also for other friends. This is proof that the pandemic is not a significant obstacle. It's time for other UMM students to make achievements in various fields. Competitions have also started. So, let our friends participate and compete healthily to win," he concluded. (apg/haq/wil)
