Education and research are one way to develop a country. This also applies to Indonesia and the Netherlands. This was conveyed by Jacklyn Frida Brugge, MA. when filling out material in a guest lecture on the Indonesian Language Education Study Program (PBI) at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) on December 1, 2022. Previously he also had the opportunity to go around the UMM campus, ride the viral duck and go to the existing temples. Even by visiting Bromo and a series of historic places in Malang.

The presence of Jacklyn was an important part of the UMM program to support the internationalization of Indonesia. Moreover, he was the winner of the International Indonesian Language Poetry Contest, especially for foreign students which were held by UMM some time ago. Thanks to that, he was given gifts and scholarships from UMM to visit Indonesia to learn a lot about the language and culture that exists.

"Before coming to UMM, I had time to browse the internet about this campus. It turns out a lot of interesting and unique things. For example, UMM which is the world's best Islamic campus to the viral ducks interests me. What's more, fun is that I can try it right away on the first day when I arrive in Malang," he explained.

In the guest lecture, Jacklyn also had the opportunity to provide new knowledge about the relationship between the Netherlands and Indonesia. According to him, historically the Netherlands and Indonesia have always been connected to each other. Diplomatic relations between the two are also quite strong. So according to him, it is not wrong if there are many Indonesians studying there. Even with the many scholarships available. Not to mention the sizeable Indonesian community and multicultural environment.

“Therefore, the opportunity for friends to study in the Netherlands is very open, especially Leiden University. Moreover, Leiden also has a long tradition of collaboration with Indonesia. For example, the campus is ranked first in Indonesian studies. In fact, in 2022 it will be the 100th anniversary of the Indonesian student association in the Netherlands," he said.

Meanwhile, the moderator who was also a lecturer at PBI UMM Faizin, M.Pd. said that this guest lecture had a number of objectives. One of them provides insight and is related to the internationalization of the Indonesian language. Even with research collaboration opportunities for students in order to make up-to-date literature in aspects of language and culture.

"So, later I hope there will be student research conducted with Leiden University students and experts. There might even be student exchanges and efforts to continue their studies," he said.

This lecturer from Madura also provided motivation to love language and culture more. This is a form of accelerating the internationalization of the Indonesian language and giving rise to new studies in the development of the language the Indonesian people are proud of. (cdr/wil)
