Again, UMM Lecturers Join Erasmus Staff Week in Europe

The University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) again dispatched its lecturers to fly to Poland through the Erasmus Staff Week program. This time, UMM Communication Science lecturer, Dr. Joko Susilo M.Si. visited to strengthen cooperation with Wroclaw University of Science and Technology (Politechnika Worclawska) and Politechnika Warszawska. This activity took place at the end of last July.

Joko said the activity which was coordinated by the International Relations Office (IRO) of UMM lasted for ten days. This activity aims to implement cooperation related to the Erasmus+ Program. In addition, they also provide new insights through introduction and sharing of experiences between campuses.

“The cooperation between UMM International Relations Office (IRO) and Erasmus has been going on for a long time. Meanwhile, the activity is an effort to expand cooperation and other international collaborations on the European continent,” said Joko.

The lecturer who is also the Secretariat of the UMM Rectorate assessed that, in form, most universities in Poland have a focus on one discipline. Examples include the Polytechnic specialized in Engineering, the University of Medicine and the University of Economics. As for the educational process, it is made in the form of a semi-module. Certain courses can be taken across study programs. Like Philosophy, 200 students from various study programs can participate.

“Before me, there were several lecturers who also went to different cities and universities. With almost the same goal, namely to talk about collaboration or cooperation between universities," he said.

In addition to discussing cooperation and campuses, Joko also knows a lot about the culture in Poland. Vice versa, he also presented about Indonesian culture there. For him, his visits to two Polish universities provided valuable experiences.

“The essence of yesterday was more to add experience and insight. Thus, it enriches the treasures of understanding about many things. Mainly related to social and cultural conditions in order to further improve the quality of self which can also affect the institution, “explained the lecturer from Sukoharjo, Central Java.
