Early education about financial institutions for students is necessary. This was conveyed by the D-III Banking and Finance Study Program Lecturer at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM), Yunan Syaifullah. Together with the students, they visited the Financial Services Authority (OJK) Malang on Tuesday (21/6).

Furthermore, as he is familiarly called, Yunan said that this visit aimed at making students more aware and familiar with the intricacies of financial institutions. It is hoped that through the awareness of each student, they can provide an understanding of financial institutions in the surrounding environment. At least for the nuclear family.

"If later there are problems related to financial institutions, at least they can provide a good solution. At least, the steps taken by the students can be a source of information in providing consumer protection while reducing fraud," said Yunan Syaifullah.

Interestingly, the series of agendas for the D-III Banking UMM students did not stop there. After these activities, they will conduct a massive education campaign in the community. Mainly material related to financial institutions. They can carry out campaigns with the hashtag "I am Indonesia, OJK-koe" through social media such as Instagram, Twitter, and others. Likewise with Youtube.

On the other hand, Malang OJK Head Sugiarto Kasmuri said that the high level of public complaints about financial institution services was a severe concern to OJK. Not infrequently, these complaints eventually lead to problems that harm the community. So it is necessary to understand the community regarding customer protection better.

"I think that can maximize understanding customer protection if young consumers, such as students, know about financial institutions. Then you can share it with your family, relatives, and the wider community," he said.

He also briefly explained and gave examples related to online loans. Assisted by staff, Sugiarto explained how easy it is for people to get online loans through smartphones and other devices.

According to him, the practice of digitizing financial services is prone to causing problems. Moreover, until now, many people still do not know and can distinguish between legal and illegal economic digitization services. One example is the practice of online loans that are increasingly widespread. Therefore, OJK continues to disseminate and educate various groups regarding governance and the rules of the game for financial institution services. That took this step to provide certainty in terms of consumer protection.

Meanwhile, UMM was the first guest to visit the new office of OJK Malang. Sugiarto hopes that the students will gain a lot of knowledge and knowledge. Not only for himself but also able to share it with the broader community. (apg/Will)
